No one talking about the "attack" on the RAF refueling aircraft?

You wouldn't be as there are strict rules of engagement (ROE's) that have to be followed. When I was in the RAF and doing guard duty we basically had our hands tied behind our backs when it came to the ROE's and if anybody broke them they would find themselves in jail for a long time. Flight lines were the responsibility of the RAF Police and normal bods like myself were not permitted to do guaard duty in any technical ares or the flight line, we just did the main gate alonngside RAFP, patrolled married quarters and the perimeter fence on some bases.

Yea but that's just ridiculous.

Sure if some kid wonders in or similar, and obviously if you can avoid shooting at someone it's better.

But this example shown there is no consequences really, they should have just opened up on them. They would have in America.

maybe split the difference, if it is clear they are unarmed maybe use rubber bullets on them? I suspect most soldiers would not want killing unarmed people on their conscience even if they were tospot vandals.

and of course should any unfortunate injuries happen even with rubber bullets that would not be on the soldiers.

I appreciate the pragmatic approach but it's not like star trek where you can just set your phaser to stun. Having a whole separate weapon and ammunition on you at all times is just not practical.

fair enough i am not a gun person, i guess i just assumed you could have very differently coloured magazines say blue for rubber and then normal for live and then swap out as needed using the same gun.

but if this is not the case then......... i guess its a bad idea!.

Yep, which is why a group tossing paint is to fast tracked thru parliament into a prescribed terrorist organisation. Absolutely ludicrous.

That group has been involved in several operations and their spokesperson was in the process of or had been convicted of a violent offence. There are no innocents here.

Proscription confirmed for the morons:
They'll just change the name or something. What are the police going to do... not a lot. Proscribing is fine and all that but its an easy way for the gov to hide this mess by blaming the perpetrators when the fact is this should never of been possible.

Hopefully it's a wake up call. Maybe.

Good news that Palestine Action will be proscribed, seems like targeted vandalism and violence against political enemies is basically what they do, so not sure why they haven't been banned already tbh. Just have to laugh at all the whining from their supporters... like, if sabotaging the RAF in a very high profile and very expensive way doesn't get you banned then what would?

But also crazy that this was possible. Not only are a lot of our air assets vulnerable to something like a surprise drone attack (which honestly seems like it would be pretty easy for a nation state like Russia to pull off if they wanted) or an old fashioned IRA style mortar attack or something, but basic perimeter fences and detection systems & patrols seem too much to ask.

Is razor wire and security fencing really that expensive that relying on what basically appears to be a wooden garden fence is the best we can do?
