EV general discussion

Ocotpus are taking the risk there i guess as its a lease.

Not part of this deal due to the V2G but there is now an 'Octopus Charge' charger.

Don’t worry, when they go under, we will all get another few p on the standing charges to cover their liabilities.
I thank you all in advance for my cheap electricity.

Seriously though, memories are short it would seem but I remember when I was one of the first to take a punt on some start up energy company that was absolutely hemorrhaging borrowed money fronted by some guy named Greg. That seemed to pan out ok...

Looking at prices of the Model Y and Ionic 5 at the moment and I'm kind of shocked, I bought a RAV4 last December and getting a bit of buyers remorse. I think it's time. I should have enough to cost to change late summer early autumn.

I love the look of the Hyundai but the 850L boot of the Tesla is tempting

I do have range anxiety to get over though but I'm not sure I know why anymore, I'm terrible at maths but if my RAV4 can do Manchester to the lakes and back on half a tank at 40mpg then a 77kw electric car would do the same on a single charge I think so maybe I just need to get over it

If you can charge at home, the only thing you have to even think about when it comes to range is a long trip (200 mile + depending on the car/conditions etc).

The Tesla doesn’t really have 850l of boot space.

Most cars sold in Europe measure boot space to the parcel shelf or the top of the rear seats. Tesla measure the whole volume so it’s not comparable.

That said it’s still a big boot (inc under floor area) and it has a massive frunk which is significantly larger than everything else in the same class.

I do a few long trips a year, it's the main thing that's put me off so far but I'm thinking the majority of them might be achievable on one charge

I didn't know that about the Tesla boot space, thanks. I thought it sounded ridiculously huge

If you stop somewhere you can DC fast charge to top up the battery. By the time you have had a brew and a pee you could add 100 miles in range or more.
I'm DC charging at the minute while my AC charging is getting sorted and within 15 minutes I've got 100+ miles loaded up.

It's a little painful considering I'm having to extend my already long days in the office to stop off in the morning but if it was once in a blue moon on a 200 mile drive it would take me that long to pee and stretch my legs anyway.

Just discovered a new bank of 12 Tesla chargers popup on my app yesterday at Sears Retail Park in Solihull, open to all EVs, just topped up on the way home, enough for this week. This is my new default charging spot, I can now do stuff while I charge!

Charging Fees for Other EVs
12:00 AM - 4:00 AM £0.37/kWh
4:00 AM - 8:00 AM £0.43/kWh
8:00 AM - 11:00 PM £0.51/kWh
11:00 PM - 12:00 AM £0.37/kWh

or 27/31/37p if on the Tesla membership.

I'm using the ones at Cannock for my charging at the minute, just a shame they only do the flat rate 50p. 43p at the times I charge would be even nicer.

Ok .

V2G :
I'd want the v2g to evolve such that you can output charge at a fixed-rate & time to try and offset offset your usual peak time costs, not Greg's.
otherwise like IOG, you'd be saying the car wants to discharge, so need to start the washing machine & cooker.
[ Does the Zaptec have it's own invertor to get the A/C out, or it is using one inside the BYD - with just V2L type max power ? ]

Doubt Octopus takes a risk on those leases, the manufacturers are now taking that burden of unknown depreciation away from the lease companies after they were burned
