Many many different devices on the market - usually copies of the original stuff.

What have you tried and has worked for you?

Strips
Weight loss?
Mouth devices

So many fake reviews about Im wondering if there's anything that has some good results.
 
This is going to sound rough, but it's hard to suggest anything without a little info on lifestyle and weight.

If you're overweight and that's the cause, you can try everything on earth to try and limit things but you're not solving the problem and most frankly don't work. Snoring can happen for a few different reasons however, polyps come to mind, but there's no real fix without understanding the why.
 
Yep, as crap as it sounds, stop being a porker. I did this for a few months and it worked wonders. Sadly being a fatty was a lot more appealing so now I just chuff like a good 'un instead.

Yeah I hear you - in my head im not that over weight (50 now) but the usual office job these days and a few too many takeaways and not too much spare time means a gym membership probably wont help.

Time to make some other changes even if small and fix the cause and not the symptoms.
 
If you're overweight you don't need to join a gym to lose it. Count calories and reduce them (a lot of people don't realise how much they're taking in, they even forget the "snacks" they'll have which add up fast), reduce sugar, cut down on alcohol especially. Take the time to walk for an hour or so a few times a week so you're getting some exercise, you can even factor this into your job if it's something you'd not normally do. Leave a little earlier, park further away so the trip there and back is longer etc.

Hell, even without losing weight increased physical activity can be positive.

You should probably ask your doctor about it, if it's really bad there might be something else going on.

Although weight can be a significant issue it isn't the only factor. Especially as you get older and tissues get slacker, that can lead to snoring. It can also be a warning sign of other sleep issues like apnoea (potentially dangerous).

Poor sleep can then feed into other health issues, which can affect ability to successfully manage weight and fitness, thereby just aggravating the problem further.

I don't know anyone who has found anti- snore devices, nasal strips etc. actually helpful.

Tldr: weight can be a factor but underlying issues can be big problem.

Also suggesting things in mouth to snoring wife is not appreciated :p.

Could just give intermittent fasting ago.
Worked wonders for me as long as you stick to it.
Although it means an overall lifestyle change, you can eat what you want on the odd occasion (out with mates etc, the odd takeaway) it's not going to make much of an impact as long as your consistent
The problem is if you stop, you WILL put the weight back on and more. And you run the risk of muscle loss and a lowered metabolism.
Did it during COVID and lost around 50 pounds. Put that back on (and some) as soon after things returned to normal as it just snowballs, I'm a classic sweet binge eater once I start i find it very difficult to stop again and the weight very quickly came back. I'm a bottomless pit I can eat 5000 calories a day and my stomach won't care (my fat likes it though) and I very rarely feel full.

I had to really simplify my eating to keep to myself under control. Currently using Huel once a day with 1 small meal around 5pm just to keep myself to a rhythm. No sweets allowed as I will just eat it all at once if its in the house. Although I do relapse a few times.

Obviously depends what the cause is but my dad had dramatic results from using a nasal spray and as a bonus it completely prevents hay fever for him which he previously suffered badly from even when using tablets, etc. for it.
 
Nosestrips work really well, you may even find you sleep better.
Absolute game changer fo me I've been using them for about 4 years and sadly only started in my 40s. I sleep so much better now, I wake up about once a month with a dry mouth rather than most mornings. I also don't seem to get ill with coughs and colds as often as I used to.....coincidence? I'm not sure but I certainly feel more rested in the morning.

My dad is a massive snorer, he's never been overweight in his life and I am exactly the same but clearly we have the snoring gene. Ours is all nose related but the strips sort it right out.

You could go to a sleep/snoring clinic to see if they can help?


i believe they make you stay awake for a day or two before going to visit

I'm lean and very healthy but snore unfortunately as the throat can collapse at night when your body relaxes and your neck is at "just the right" angle. I'd speak to an ENT doctor and they may prescribe a mandibular advancement device or other things to help you, like do a sleep clinic investigation. I was given some overnight monitoring equipment for a couple of days, and then deemed that I don't have sleep apnoea but simply that I snore.

Of course if you are overweight then losing weight is the first thing to approach, as well as finding good support for the neck using decent cushions.. Lifestyle choices like alcohol and smoking will also have an impact (i.e. if you smoke and drink you will more likely snore).

Don't rely on "cheap" fixes, go and speak to a specialist, sleep is so important that you don't want to take a guess.
