Hi all,

Looking for a build for gaming with the main objective being best bang for buck. Really open to any suggestions - not fussed about RGB or even a windowed case. What would you recommend?

Evening bud.

Could you please give this a read and make use of the provided template? It'll really help to streamline things for you and ensure you get the best possible recommendations:

I'd be same lines as @mickyflinn which is spot on, so would only be swapping bits really..perf will be the same

I'm using a arctic freezer 36 cooler on my 9800x3d at mo. mobo showing it's at 35 degrees at mo while i type this, ambient room temp is 22.5. can get one of those for £23
£350 will get you the 7800x3d...sorry to say I can't tell you the diff yet. only just put the 9800x3d in replacing a 7800x3d I gave to my son..haven't had time to even load a game yet, let alone play...but to be honest, not expecting much more myself, as I'm on 4k screen...9800x3d is meant to be better at non gaming tasks, so did the upgrade more for work than play..built my sons with a mag a850gl psu..same warranty as the phanteks, and it's gone up to the same price now too..just an alternative
Case and gpu really subjectlive..the sapphire pulse is an alternative(, I've got the nitro+, but that's a bit more...actually just looking it's reduced to £668, so only £8 more and is saphires flagship model). lancool 217 is little more but nice looking case also or fractal design north..antec flux. antec c3 is £80 with fans but more fishtank(you can turn the rgb off if you don't want that

As a general use build the above is spot on, but I would personally consider opting for the 5070ti at current prices unless heavily into one or two games (Warzone is a good example, loves AMD). I find DLSS to be superior visually and as of now it has better support than FSR4, and it's also on average a little faster. You also get superior RT performance, and while Nvidia drivers have been iffy the issues seem to have largely been resolved.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,427.93 (includes delivery: £7.99)

You get a longer warranty with the Zotac if you register within 30 days, which takes it up to 5 years from 3.

A little shuffling around might even get you into 5080 territory with a small budget increase, but the cutbacks elsewhere might not be worth it.

That's great, thanks all. I guess I'll need some thermal paste too, any recommendations or are they all similar?

Great thanks. is it worth spending the extra for an x870 motherboard?

It's pretty much just USB4 as mentioned by @Tetras, some have better M.2 configurations and there is the odd one becoming more affordable, but for general use/gaming etc the majority of B850 for around the £130-180 mark will be fine.

Left it too long and the Gigabyte B850 GAMING X WIFI6E is now on pre-order - is there a good alternative around the same price?
