Payraise.. how much do you expect? how much did you get?

However once you've got the money .... you'll want to spend it to get the free time! So kind of agree with you both. Tbh a better way would be to look at it £ per hour.
You could earn £3k per hour and work just 1 hours a month. Or you could earn £19 per hour and work approx 160 hours a month.

Both get you the same mortgage.

Yeah exactly - this would mean you have 159 hours free to make more money if you wanted to? I definitely would prefer one of those options.

That was @Ayahuasca 's point though I think - that its still a payrise even if you do nothing else with the free time.

Obviously on a per hour basis it is, but my point was that its irrelevant what you earn per hour really, because what matters is how much absolute money comes into your bank account every month (unless you're already loaded).

It's not even about making more money. It could be as simple as getting rid of the cleaner now that you have more time to do it yourself.

Either way, it's still effectively a pay rise and people are just being too pedantic about what constitutes one. The same applies if you don't get a pay rise. It's effectively a pay cut, since the cost of pretty much everything else has increased, but you haven't been given extra money or time to counteract that.

If anything having more free time is going to cost you money, because to fill that time you normally need to spend money doing things. Unless you're sitting staring into space for those extra hours a week, extra time and no extra money is pretty useless.

 I've heard it all now. You've really bought into that sigma male grindset stuff haven't you.

I hope those 16 hour days (perhaps even more as you can just sleep when you're dead right?) being productive are serving you well.

Don't forget that extra hour you need to work back tonight to pay for that ChatGPT subscription!

sigma male grindset.
I don't know what this means.

I work 37 hours a week which is about right. If I worked 30 hours for the same money of course I'd take it, but it wouldn't be a pay rise from my perspective because I'd not be getting any more money.

Not sure why that's so hard to understand.

It isn't hard to understand. I just said you're taking things too literally, as you apparently operate like a robot rather than a human, based on what you've said.

Yes, the only way to avoid spending money outside of work is to simply sit and stare into space for every hour outside of work.

Got the letter early. ~8% not quite as much as I hoped but still happy.

As someone who reduced my hours last year, the real pay cut comes from having more free time for fun stuff not getting less £££ into bank account. :D

11% this year
25% uplift when working nights so thats a nice bonus
I’ve worked twilights, nights and rotational 6am starts where I have to wake up at ungodly hours, 11pm finishes where I don’t get home til late. It’s messed up my sleeping pattern and body clocks so much that even over 15 years of working 9-5.. I still wake up at odd hours and can’t get back to sleep.

For April 2025 pay deal... Offered 2.8%, unions rejected. Offered 3.1%, unions rejected and said will ballot for strikes. Ballots sent out... Offered 3.4%. Once the ballots are done and results are in, assuming it's a yes for strikes, let's see what the offer is then :D. Personally... I would be satisfied with 4%.

I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get a significant payrise and bonus this year.

I’ve done and redone some industry certifications, which has made me much more marketable. A similar role at a rival company had a position where the salary was 12.5k more than I’m earning now. Granted their other incentives may not have matched what I’m getting now, but the bottom line is that they paying higher.

I was contacted by another company yesterday asking if I wanted to apply for a position, which again paid slightly more but looking at the other benefits again, may not have match my total current compensation package.

Work wise, I’m taken on a more senior role where I’m the developing staff, my actual day job, my role within the team and platform engineering has become more important.

Time will tell, the company I work for tends to reward their performers..

A shade under 3k/4.75%. Only came into the company a year ago at the top of the salary band so wasn't expecting anything this year - pleasantly surprised. Was starting to get itchy feet so this has encouraged me to hang around a little longer

I've been at my current employer a year and have received nothing, though I did get a €1000 spot bonus for ordinance this month which was appreciated.
