Gamers, What's Your Audio Set Up?

So I got my Luxsin X9 this morning at 8:05, along with a pair of Acoustic Energy AE1 Actives. Very roughly set up, but it appears I've just spent 3 hours listening to various things on Tidal. Time flies, and all that.

Still waiting on the new headphones, but up and runnning on my Wired Amiron Home and the AE1s. Sounding good so far.

Only thing is the wifi setup on the X9, it doesn't want to connect to my home wifi, but connects fine to my mobile hotspot. My router has been a little weird recently, so it's maybe time for a new one.

Will do some further testing later, as I have both a k11r2r and a Mojo 2 to compare to in the house.

Exciting times.

Haven’t used my PS5 since adding the Arya’s to my setup along with the Sound Blaster G8. Great being able to use the Arya’s for my whole setup now, PS5, PC and TV. Just a shame the volume control can’t be don’t remotely for anything other than PC.

Nice, keep us updated, good to have someone else on here with the X9, would love to hear your impressions against the K11r2r and Mojo2.

It's only a thing that happened last night, like it was perfectly balanced then suddenly after reconnecting headphones a slight bias to the left happened, and only to the headphones out. Reconnecting a bunch of times restores it.

I have done a factory reset now so will monitor it and await the arrival of the 4.4 to XLR adapter , in the meantime have to wait until Monday before Luxsin's devs are back in office.

Remember, things like this can happen to non chi-fi as well, as noted, every single one of my NAD class D amps had issues exactly after warranty ended. My OG Rotel RA02 also had balance issues with the volume dial, and my NAD Bee had a failed transformer if we got years prior. The NAD Ds were all very expensive so I don't attribute the country of origin as a factor in what if something happens down the line, as evidence proves it doesn't matter based on my direct experience.

The treble on the DX5 II is definitely more pronounced than on the X9, the X9's upper range is relaxed but still detailed, the DX5 II is brighter in this area. Some may like this, others won't as it feels like sharpness peaking on some music, which might mean faffing around with EQing to reduce as there is no basic tone control in the menu like previous Topping DACs have had which is slightly annoying.

It can happen there is no denying that at all, but anecdotal evidence aside it is undeniably more common from the Chinese brands unfortunately, and less support after warranty, Luxsin seem to be very engaged with people and want to come out swinging showing support (initially at least) so hopefully long term things will be ok and they prove a winner.

It doesn't surprise me that the DX5II is 'thinner' sounding, reason why I think it fits the 600/650 line quite well to help cut through the 'Sennheiser Veil' which rears it's head more with warmer sounding amps.

If your DX5 II was silver it would almost be the perfect stack with the PA7 ;)

It's annoying in that Topping can't stick to things that worked previously, like they gave tone controls and auto switching to headphones out when you plugged in headphones and then back to line out when removing, and that was on their entry level all in one from years ago! So why I ask is it missing on a brand new mid-tier model in 2025?!

Thought mine just turned up but it was the new Edifier MR5:

Should be interesting to see what the line outputs from the DX5 II is like as well I guess and the MR5 also has balanced XLR and TRS inputs, which means i need to order more cables as I don't have enough for A/B testing.
That looks very cramped? I take it those speakers are going on the stands of the others?

I just unboxed them for that picture, they are being tested not used full time, the Triangles are my main speakers

In my testing rig room as only got a sound bar there currently on that PC (Linux box) - Though may put them in the living room given how good the bass is and serve as speakers for the projector.

Why do you have a test rig room or a test rig at all? Do you build/sell PC's? Nice, your neighbours are going to love you!

When I don't want to clutter up my main desktop with new stuff sent in for review/test it's simpler to just use the test rig for just that purpose. That room has no neighbours, so nobody to disturb

I do youtube as well but main focus is written reviews:

Crazy, I didn't know Neowin was still around, that's a blast from the past!
I thought people didn't really bother reading blogs/tech websites anymore and everything was just social media or something niche like this forum that for once isn't dead like all the others :)
That's cool that some websites are still bothering then.
Do they pay you or is it just a case of getting to keep the things you review as payment?

Yeah been around a while and has remained steady covering all things tech.

Neowin pays based on my content only, it's not much but I get to play with new toys and often keep what I am sent as most of these products are pre-release samples not retail units and I get to help feed back info to them to ideally fix issues before official launch via updates or whatnot.

I always pick what I want to review, stuff that I;d be interested in buying myself, as that gives a better user experience, I look for issues that would annoy me for example and share that info. There have been brands offering phones and other stuff but also outlining what I should mention or that I should post "2 stories on Instagram, a short on youtube" etc, I reject offers where things are predefined as that's not doing things on my terms and keeping it fair/balanced.

It’s weird because I think the XS sounds better with the Xduoo but the HD600 sounds better on the DX5.

I don’t have any verbal reasoning but when I was using the amp last night I just grabbed the one I felt sounded nicer and kept my attention more and it was the HD600.

Am I going to have to keep both?!

Max out the volume on the MAC/PC, and let the amp attenuate the volume, the DX5 is attenuating the volume in decibels which are logarithmic, as opposed to linear, they scale differently to just a simple numbered 1-100 volume dial, basically 10dB of gain is roughly double the volume and 20dB of gain is roughly 4 times the volume and so on and so forth, the closer you get to reference 0.0dB it will get louder exponentially so don't worry about that.

3db would be double and 10db would be 10x
