Not sure if this has been covered in a previous thread or not. Basically, something similar to that whiskey drinkers' thread, rating whiskey.

VO5 - Texturising Gum

An average hold, with a semi-matte texture, very remouldable throughout the day, even after wearing a hat. Good on longer hair (3-4 inchesish) keep styles up.

VO5 - Matte Clay

Tougher hold than the gum, with a matte tecture. Not so remouldable, but still doable, nothing catastrophic though :p Not so good on longer hair, best on shorter hair (upto 1-2 inchesish).

I've just bought some new Funkyshaper, says ideal for hair 2-5 inches. Will report back on findings after first use :D

I can do a pretty lengthy hair spray review(s)..... Yes, the truth comes out now....

VO5 Matt Clay gets a 8/10 from me, I have pretty longish hair on top and short on the sides, and it works ace on matting up the long hair. It also washes out well, which is nice as compared to waxes with the same properties they do not.

Texturising Gum i've never really got on with.. Too greasy.

The best of the best has to be between:

Bead Head - Manipulator - Like VO5 Gum but just so much better and it is the best smelling hair product I've found.

and

Fish - Paste Hair Putty - Stronger than Manipulator, however it doesn't have the endurance without some decent hairspray. Smells fit too, but not as good.

Hard to decide, so it goes down to price. Bed Head is load more than Fish, so Fish wins in my books.

I'll throw in some HairSpray reviews as soon as I get round to it.

Got2B spiking gel - pretty much quick setting concrete for your hair

Mixed with Got2B hair spray im managing to keep a 5 inch mohawk perfect even after sleeping on it :D

Bed Head -" Hard to get " is good
very firm and smells v nice too. doesn't get sticky or greasy either.

.

Smells better than matt clay? because that stuff is LITERALLY orgasmic to the smell!

Id go with V05 Surf Style, full matt look holds through the day non reworkable but if its done right in the morning why change it! and smells pretty good too!

Fudge - Hair Shaper
Keeps your hair in place and soft, looks natural. Smells delicious, will never change product.

L'oreal tecni.art wax - Gets my hair the way I want it but is a bit difficult to wash off your hands afterwards

Garnier Fructis Strong Hold - Good gel with a light feel, if you run your hands through your hair it doesn't feel like you have put anything on.

Anyone noticed how v05 gum just changed formula and now smells like tennage aftershave instead of like bubblegum?

This has just ruined this product for me... Now don't know what to buy

I've switched to powder now, every Gum or Fudge product seems to have just gone to crap

Miss the original Fudge so much.

Any Dax Wax users?

Used it prolifically in my early 20’s, I’m pretty sure it’s the reason why I’ve needed to clean shave my head for the last decade. If I were to let my hair grow out, picture friar tuck(ish) hair growth.

If you’re considering it, avoid!

So I used to buy the original texturising gum with hold 5 for as long as I can remember, last time I went to buy I had to buy the hold 4 which is nothing like as good, but just assumed they had extended the range, is the 5 basically not available anymore ? its no longer listed on the v05 website ..

I have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with hair products. I've got loads and loads of half-used ones that I've bought and tried out over the years, looking for "the one". A lot of it being more specialist, online-only products rather than off-the-shelf Boots jobbies. I have fine, Asian hair, and usually look for a matte-to-very slight natural shine product with medium/high hold.

At the moment, my main routine is wetting the hair slightly, applying something for volume like a Reuzel Grooming Tonic, blow dry, then my current favourite is Lodestar Rio, and I mix in a tiny bit of Shear Revival Crystal Lake for the shine.

If we're talking off-the-shelf only, I remember quite liking Johnny's Chop Shop Texture Cream in the blue tin, though the shine is on the higher side.
