Pacific Drive

Does it get any less grindy?

My all steel car is getting ripped to bits every time I leave the shop and I’m only in the Outer Zone. Even looting and scrapping everything in each zone is barely leaving enough resources to fix my car when I get back to the shop.

Just picked this up cheap and only just done the first mission but seems interesting so far.

Agree with some comments above though that for a fairly basic / low view distance game the performance is a bit sluggish!

Anyhow main reason to post was to point out that there is a save in zone feature now added to the latest update, so thought that may be useful info for some of you.

I wanted to try it out, but fist to check - is there a lot of grinding involved? Or is it really good adventure without spoiling grinding process?
Also, whats with that saving mechanism - how does it save the game? People complain about it - is it because it has auto save points situated far away, or after some huge chunk of job is done?

It can be grindy if you want it too, i.e. if you want to spend time looking for every collectible in the least survivable areas. I was able to finish the main story without much in the way of grinding though

As for saving, I believe the game has recently been updated to allow you the option of saving at any time. Can't confirm as I finished it before that update.

Oh, that sounds good, so I could play main story without griding, that's ideal for me to be honest.

I've just started playing this, and I don't think I understand some of the central mechanics.

Collecting the ARC globe thingies - is that purely to enable return to the garage? Or is there another purpose?
And before I 'link gateway' at the end of a run, I should make sure I'm right next to it so I'm not having to traverse the map in a rush to reach the extraction point?

Any other basic tips for a newbie?

Late reply I know, but ARC energy is required for gateways, but it is also a currency for upgrades. When triggering an exit you need to be a certain distance from it (it will show on the map as a circle when you hover over one), but generally, yes be as close as possible before tiggering.
Also, you'll usually have several to choose from, try and pick one that does not involve steep climbs or descents or any other features that might slow you down.

I recently replayed this, I love the way a smooth run can quickly turn into a total disaster :)

I actually bought this out of interest, loved the intro bit but didn't get on with the rest. Too much scavenging/building and not enough coasting and dealing with issues with the radio on, I'm not a fan of survival games but gave this a chance. It's not bad by any means and if you're into that stuff by all means give it a shot, it is well done, but I'm tired of survival/builder games and it's a shame as the cruising/story parts were actually appealing. A more traditional survival horror with a lot of focus on driving elements would have done it for me. The atmosphere is great but I felt like they screwed it up by making you get out every few minutes to deal with randomly generated junk in zones. Damned shame as they had something special with the premise and aforementioned intro.

Thanks! What you've written is what I've worked out for myself in the time since - but it's well described and certain to be useful for anyone else coming fresh to the game and this thread. :)

One problem I have with the sound design of this game - the noise the plasma scrapper makes when it picks up stuff. It's the scariest sound in the entire game! :D

The soundtrack on the opther hand is very good. I've even added 'puzzle pieces' to my Spotify.

I actually spent more time in the garage than in the 'world'... Which I did kind of enjoy in an OCD way.. But if you don't like scavenging/repairing stuff, this game probably isn't for you.. But the rush from the first few times you try to exit are hard to beat..

Didn't realise they'd now added the option to save whenever you like. I'm sure that's nice in a way, but I'm glad I played it without, the stress and panic of trying to make it back with your car falling to pieces was definitely part of the experience.

Definitely agree!
Especially if you spent 30mins in the garage repairing/upgrading, 15mins in the zone.. Those last few minutes to exit - there's a lot of time and effort riding on you making it out alive! It's really worth it to play like this. But if you fail it's a bit of a kicker.. Especially if you're only "allowed" an hour to play..
