Zappi charger + installation:

Octopus: £1049 inc installation - the only caveat is that I don't know whether they will balls up the integration with my solar PV + battery system
Spectra solar (the installers of my PV system): £1314 but as they installed my PV, they will know how to integrate with my solar PV (ie solar batteries won't charge the EV)

Is the extra £265 worth for the peace of mind, or reckon that octopus shouldn't balls the install up, as they should've done a few by now?

Even though somebody else did your PV, Octopus do their own so any installer should know what they are doing.

I have solar & battery and Octopus installed my Zappi with no issues whatsoever.

£265 is equivalent to ~12k miles @ 7p/kwh and 3 miles/kwh lol...that's a 1.5 years of driving for me :cry:
 
Just make sure you tell whoever comes to install it EXACTLY what you want.

I wouldn’t count on any spark installing an EV chargers from a company which also does solar installs having any clue about solar. I also wouldn’t count of anything you’ve told their central booking team being passed to the person who turns up.

Big companies in particular tend to have their installers work in teams. Solar teams work on solar, EV teams work on chargers and I wouldn’t expect there to be much coordination between them.
 
Picked up the CX60 today. We bought from a dealer 2.5 hours away in Coventry and the car had only just gone through it's PDR earlier today, so hadn't been fully charged. So haven't had much chance to experiment with EV only mode, but most of the drive was motorway anyway. But even with a depleted battery level, the car evidently has enough to creep around on electric.

But first impressions are great - it drives lovely, and being one of the brand new 2025 models, it's had some suspension refinements. We test drove a late 2024MY car before, which was nice, but we did notice it rode a little firm, and this seems to have been a common criticism. But happy to say that our car felt much nicer on the road.

Not much else to say really. Really chuffed with it. The adaptive cruise is much more refined than we had in the Kia, and integrates with the lane assist so the car basically drives itself. For several miles in heavy traffic, I kept my feet off the pedals and just one finger on the wheel giving no input, and the car just drove itself, even stopping and starting when the traffic came to a halt. Seems to respond more smoothly than the Kia, which I always felt I had to manage a bit, either by stopping it braking too heavily or too early, or being a bit slow to accelerate when cars in front moved away. Lots of other nice trinkets to keep us entertained - wireless AA/CP, automatic seat settings based on who it recognises in the drivers seat, heads up display....very nice.

I got home and plugged the car in to the garage wall socket and on the dash it estimates 6h 50m to fill up from pretty much empty. If that's the case, that should be fine overnight. We've already signed up to switch to the Eon tariff, but I worked out that even on our current tariff, filling the battery should still only cost about 4-5 quid or something - manageable until the new tariff is in effect.

Yeah if you rent it from tesla can only try the new one overnight. Main thing I wanted to check was it could fit on the drive and that it got car seats and the dog. It's dimensionally not changed in versions.

Id like the new one but I don't want to pay the depreciation cost on it!
 
I tried out Arnold Clark's chargers today as I'm doing a long trip tomorrow, worked very well. You have to book ahead of time which gives some peace of mind that it'll be available when you get there (though you can just turn up and book/charge if they're empty). Was a bit of a faff having to then add my payment card details to the app at the charger, rather than being able to do it ahead of time. All fine after that though, they use Kempower 150kW chargers so you get the nice web interface from scanning the QR code, and it was only 55p per kWh so fairly cheap too. It was my first time charging to 100% so it was interesting to see how much slower the final 20% is compared to charging to 80%.
 
The drop in sales was largely down to them turning off Model Y production for a few weeks in all their factories. When that one car makes up something like 2/3 of your sales, it has quite an impact. The same thing happened last year when the Model 3 got turned off for a few weeks - its a real problem when you only really sell 2 cars.

I expect next month to be pretty strong as well with all the Y's they'll be churning out. It went straight back to number 1 in Norway. I'm not sure people really pay that much attention to the 'drama' and is probably something that will blow over is Musk (as he seems to have done more recently) winds his neck in. Him giving it the full Nazi was a couple months ago now, that is really old news in 2025, particularly with the daily Trump rollercoaster.

We're a few months down the line and European Tesla sales are still dropping, even though the EV market has grown substantially in the same period.


I appreciated there was more detail that could explain it in the first quarter, as you've posted above, is there any other explanations for the continued poor performance or does it look like the brand damage Musk inflicted has had an effect?

I think there's the other issue for Tesla that other manufacturers are offering EV alternatives and there's more choice now than ever.
 
While it is most likely the Musk effect, it is not the only cause. The fact is that even with the new models, Tesla have stagnated a bit and others have caught up on the EV side and still overall surpass them in quality.

The irony is the kind of people who would consider an EV are more liberal centrist “woke” types. The kind of people who Musk alienated will ow never consider one of his Nazicars. Even more ironic is the people he cosied up to would never consider an EV as they are the anti woke types.

I think this is the main thing to be honest, go back 5-6 years and if you wanted an EV with a decent range and reliable charging network, Tesla was really the only option, unfortunately they've sat on their laurels for too long, and the traditional manufacturers have now caught up.

I still believe it’s mostly the Musk effect to be honest. People were buying Tesla’s in large numbers even when they were demonstrably crap cars. Europeans have basically said “**** you Elon” and quite rightly as well.

No, you probably aren’t but this is exactly how many “anti woke” types think. If you buy an EV it’s because you are a tree hugging lefty. It’s the narrative that gets pushed even if it has zero basis in facts.

Partly musk no doubt but also the competition is bringing it.

I’ve owed two Tesla’s but I wouldn’t buy a 3rd in a world where you can lease an EV6 for near £100/month less or The much nicer Polestar 4 for £60 more.

In my view the refreshed Y is priced in no mans land currently.

That said it’s still number 1 in some markets like Norway where that single car made up 16% of the entire Norwegian market in May.

To name a few others:

Ford explore £200/month cheaper - sure the Y is a better car but is it £200 batter? Obviously not.

Renault Scenic £250/month cheaper, as above.

Travascan, £140/month cheaper

ID7, over £100/month cheaper.

bYD seal £200/month cheaper
