Huel, I've heard a lot about it. Is it any good?
It's been good for me - the texture isn't great; plant protein never mixes as smoothly as milk protein-based shakes like YFoods, but it's lower in sugar & carbs and double the protein per portion (and slightly cheaper per meal).
I blend it with half water, half almond milk and a few ice cubes, which helps. Yfoods' flavours are far nicer, but Huel's Chocolate, Cinnamon Swirl, Coffee Caramel and Salted Caramel are decent.
I've been blending half a frozen banana into the Coffee flavour to add a little sweetness, so I thought I'd give the actual banana flavour a try. It's awful - really artificial and reminds of the flavoured antibiotics from childhood.
I use the shakes mainly for breakfast (my biggest source of unnecessary calories were from oversized bowls of cereal and pastries) and the occasional lunch-on-the-go, or if I know I've got a few hours in hospital, I'll take one with me.
I'm a wheelchair user, so although I can burn a high amount of calories when active, I wasn't getting them from healthy sources. I hit 17st then realised I needed to make some big changes. I started Monjaro jabs in January, which massively helped suppress my appetite and sweet tooth, plus the meal-replacement shakes gave me a far greater control of nutrition and calories.
I'm down to 14st 3lb, have lost 6 inches off my waist and 10 inches from my belly and now regretting donating all my old clothes that I didn't think I'd ever fit into again.
I'm spending about £200 a month between the Monjaro and Huel, but we were spending far more than that on takeaways and meals out, so I'm actually saving a fair few quid, too.
