That’s just if they decide to pit.

Still not convinced Piastri even braked that hard. On Max’s onboard you can hear him still accelerating until he was basically alongside. That’s why it looked bad.

Seemed like announcement of safety car ending came very late on straight approaching Stowe, leaving Piastri at front in a pickle for the restart, hence his braking.

If you pit with an outstanding time penalty, you have to leave the car alone for the time penalty period before starting work.

If you have a stop go penalty, you can't do anything else to the car at all, it has to involve serving the penalty only. You can't add a 'free' pit stop into your penalty.

You can't work on the car in a stop-go, so you pit, wait 10sec, leave (car can't be touched).

If you have a 5 or 10sec normal penalty, if the race ends, it's added to your time, but if you pit with the penalty pending, you come into the pits, nobody can touch the car for 10sec, then they can work on the car (change tyres), and you leave.

For a stop-go, you typically lose 25sec+, whereas a 10sec penalty, you lose 10sec.
