Another Drunk Driver Crashes into my Car

Got an update on the car from the bodyshop, they stripped it down and found because the rear wheel was pushed forwards it had actually kinked the floor, so they have written the car off. Now to chase the insurance company and argue for a reasonable payout
am sure you know this already but get on autotrader and find good examples you can use to argue your case if they do not offer you a fair price.

my 1st car that was written off i did get a few hundred extra after fighting my corner - my 2nd car, hats off to Admiral - a company who dont always get a positive rep - but off the bat they offered me a fair price for the car, and a bonus £350 on top if i chose not to take the courtesy car.

Yeah, my car was an AUC car from a BMW dealer so I want compensating to the cost of replacing it on a like for like basis for an AUC. I dont think that unreasonable but no doubt they will offer me trade value.

******, but I'd rather it written off then have to deal with an extensively damaged car as you'll take the hit one way or another when coming to sell it.
Hope you get a decent payout!
You getting another M5 or will you look at other things?

I probably will but not 100% sure but I guess I will have to move pretty fast, as I will get 5 days from the payout before I have to give the courtesy car back and I need a car for work. I dont mind paying extra out of my pocket to get exactly what I want but there doesnt seem to be anything that ticks all the boxes

Could get something temporary while looking for the perfect replacement

Well thats was quick, got a call from the insurance company and they said it was a total loss and so they would give me £52k. I said it was a bit short as looking on the BMW site a comparable AUC would cost £55k and that I could send them pics to prove it, so he said the most he could offer was £54.5k so I agreed to that, not worth arguing for £500. All told pretty smooth sailing and a relatively happy outcome.

Now to find a suitable replacement

I think the car being written off is the right outcome, no need to worry about the value being compromised or wondering about the quality of the work that was done.

It’s good that’s it’s all concluded, but I think it’s sad insurance companies low ball customers initially and don’t just offer the value of the car in the first instance. I know it’s a business but still, you’ve been inconvenienced at no fault of your own, matters should be made right and you shouldn’t be potentially £500 worse off.

On the plus side you get to go car shopping and possibly pick something different/better than you had. Every cloud etc.

Good result and good tactics using the AUC status for comparables.

Have you looked into the impact on insurance premium renewal;
even new car you posted on viewing, won't be identical I guess, to continue current policy - 10/15% ?

It wont affect my no claims but Im sure my premium will go up come renewal

I kind of guessed it would be written off, which is a shame, but in this case a probable correct decision and a good payout.

Good luck finding a decent replacement.

5 days isn't too bad - when my car was written off I was given 24 hours from the first valuation!

I would like to know the court outcome of the scummer who caused this incident, hope he gets a right good scudding by the court.
