Upgrading 4090 to 5090 (mainly for AI Art)

I am considering upgrading the GPU in my system from a 4090 to a 5090 - the card I am considering is the Asus GeForce RTX 5090 ROG Astral OC 32GB GDDR7 PCI-Express Graphics Card.

I'm not a big gamer, so the upgrade is in no way linked to seeking extra gaming performance. The machine gets used mostly for AI Art (SDXL, Flux etc) and my research suggests that I could see upto 75% performance improvement (using FP8). The extra VRAM should also provide a little extra head room.

My main question is whether the PSU in the system (specs in signature) is adequate for the task. On paper it seems okay - and when under load at the moment it peaks at around 600 Watts, and the 5090 should draw an additional 125W. Does anybody know of any limitation of the PSU that might lead to issues?

My system is an almost Stock OcUK Radiance Dawn system - the CPU failed and was replaced by OcUK after 12 months, and I have upgraded the RAM from 32GB to 64GB, but that is all that has changed. OcUK still sell the Radiance Dawn system, and it is available with a 5090, but the PSU has been updated to a 1200W model, hence why I seeking a little advice before jumping in.

Thanks in advance

1200w will be fine for a 5090 and 13900k and if a platinum rated version will exceed that wattage.
My Radius Dawn is 2 years old, so the PSU is only an Asus ROG THOR 1000W Platinum II. OcUK build them with 1200W PSUs now so the question is whether my 1000W PSU is man enough, or has any quirks that make it unsuitable for the upgrade.

I am not planning to add any hardware in the future will add any extra load to the machine, so I am hoping that a bigger PSU is not needed.

The fact it's a 1000w platinum rated PSU I would be happy using it.

Well you should be able to recover 80% at least of the cost by selling the 4090.
Yep, that’s the only way it’ll happen! Seems there is a decent market for 4090s on eBay, so all I need to do is sell the card without getting scammed!

I have placed my order!

Thanks to all for the help.

Just do the usual - personal meet up in a busy public place, cash in hand, no weird apps or BS. Maybe take a friend with you for the deal. He gets to see the card, you get to count the cash. Anyone who insists they will pre-pay via a card and some app is likely to try to scam you - either by charging back or using a stolen CC. IRL they can't do that, so long as you count the cash and make sure it's real. Good luck!

As for your PSU - I don't see a reason to stop using it. It's high enough capacity, and has high efficiency.
