Afternoon all, does anyone have experience either getting valuations or selling private plates. In this case I've got multiple on certificates (bought them many years back on a whim when I had cash to spare) and naturally there's some uniqueness in how they spell words.

They've got the modern format and I've seen similar plates listed for £2-5k+, though admittedly those plates are 'less accurate' to the word trying to be spelt. The only similar plates would have course be 49 plates (replace the 6 with 4), but those are more than 25 years away from being able to be put on a car

I recall many years back one of these sites gave me a very low valuation and I was suspicious since they also sell plates (buy low and sell high). A colleague of mine mentioned when they bought their personalised plate, they mistakenly enquired with one of these companies who ended up bidding against them and quoted them multiple times what they ended up winning the bid on the auction for the plate. So forgive me if I'm naturally wary of any of these plate valuation companies who also sell plates themselves.

Any ideas?

I know there are a few YouTube channels about private plate trading, they might be worth a watch.

I wouldn't bother with valuations, they are meaningless. Just attempt to sell it, and see what offers you get. That tells you what they're worth.

Whilst others might be listed for £2k-£5k, it doesn't mean they will sell for that.

Personally I don't think any of them are great, given that they are modern format and wont look any where near as obvious spaced properly.

Realistically even at £500 I think they'll be a hard sell.

Think you may be 'over valuing' them, I don't think any are that unigue to be worth more than a couple hundred quid but as was mentioned above, list them and see what offers you get, then it's up to you if it's enough.

With them all featuring 69 I guess you were a lot younger when you bought them, you never know you may get a 18 year old who's just passed his test thinking he's going to be getting 69s for the rest of his life

I don't think 69 as 'AG' really works except for the most try-hard of people, so I struggle to see much of a market for offloading these, especially as the 69 format restricts it to 2019 or newer cars too.

Hopefully you got them cheaper back then than the £599 all the nondescript DR69 plates seem to be listed for on the dvla site.

As others have said, they're worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. As they're pretty standard format with nothing to make them stand out, I don't seem them getting more than the standard £250-300.

Unless it's very obvious and very desirable, the resale value of most private plates is far lower than the original purchase price. Nobody's ever going to buy F10 EEK from me, but to me, it was worth what I paid for it. The same also goes for my amateur radio callsign, it's utterly worthless for anyone else but for me, it was a bargain. To anyone else (except for other radio hams), it's a letter, a number and three letters. You can't make a word out of it, it just looks like an old style plate.

I can’t say what value they represent to others, but I find them an invaluable indicator of the presence of an absolute throbber driving a vehicle bearing such a plate.
As the owner of two, I can absolutely confirm this. But does that make me a double throbber, seeing as I only have one car?

Its all very subjective.... unless you have something like JON or DAVE or some other very common name its all down to having low number of digits such as A1 etc....

The ones with things such as M1 TT RS ST GT1 and so on can fetch good money for obvious reasons....

Looking at yours i would think the first one would be quite good for JAAAAAAAGGGgggGGGGgggg owners! so i would think that would be worth something. Game of throne lovers might like the next 2 but would they pay much?

Good luck anyway!

As many will say... as much as someone wants to pay for em

Other than a Young Dr I can't really see these attaining even what you paid for em unfortunatley :(

RCR and CAR I'd expect you to get least for, the others might at a stretch have someone else think dragon
