It's too hot :(

Work is bad (craft booze distilling, bottling) think farmers barn with big shutter doors so outside temp plus hot machinery thrown in for good measure , mid 30s
on the plus side its half day Friday so straight down to the beach
nights are ok, relatively cool

That sounds like my idea of hell, but you then treat yourself to sweating down the beach afterwards  you're clearly a heat lover ;)

Quick early garden water and gym session before it gets too hot. It’s actually lovely outside right now.

29.8C in my son's bedroom with fans blowing to circulate air :(

It's going to be difficult getting a good sleep tonight unless you have AC or live somewhere where it's not as warm.

It’s not cheap, but I’m sure a lot more people will be getting some kind of AC. These heatwaves seem to be the norm now. We’ve had so much use out of ours over the last few years. It’s funny that we’ll spend so much on heating a house, but the British public still seems to have some old engrained view of AC in the house. I’m starting to see a lot more new builds around here with it installed.

20C with no wind is definitely not the weater to sweating out a gym session  you psychopath! :D

Nah I don't like heat but I like bare flesh and chatty female tourists , it has to be done
I'm just picturing overweight chavs with fake tan running, badly done generic samey tattoos, stretch marks, drilling the cheapest cigs, shouting at their kids and their 'baby daddy' with each sentence starting with "Not gonna lie", "I swear down" or "I'm not being funny but"

Yea the old adage of "you only need it a few days of the year" is completely incorrect. New-build housing stuffed to the gills with insulation is now causing the opposite of the problem it was fixing. There's no design consideration for proper ventilation or shading of windows - we should probably now be looking at the Euro way of doing it, with windows that open inwards to allow us to have shutters externally, which would have a massive benefit of reducing solar gain.

Interesting, so that's not purely an asthetic choice then, I've learnt something this morning then haha :)

Yep. You have to imagine the "side" view of the sun outside your house, the window, then the inside of your house. Even if you have your curtains and blinds shut, the sunlight (and so the solar heating) still gets through the window and is heating up the room. If you stop the sunlight on the outside - either with shutters or a canopy shade - then that solar heating is stopped.

That makes complete sense why despite having black out curtains, I'm still:

Yeah, and some don't realise that AC could be used for heating in the winter too. Often cheaper than central heating, so can be seen as a win-win really. Installed our office AC a few years ago and we use ours in the summer obviously but the winter too for heating. It's been cheaper than the radiators.

Good friend of mine built his own office/man cave etc. at the back of his garden at the end of covid after they moved house and made sure to install AC there so it could handle the cold winters and warm summers, has said it's just been an absolute dream for the last 2 years he's had it running.

I was only half listening when he explained but it sounded like he was using an air:air and water heat pump to run it all - so had no issues keeping things warm or cool, all without spending a huge amount too.
