5 best looking aeroplanes

Ugh... not the flying toilet?

My current top 5 in no particular order (especially given no Concorde or Blackbird...)

English Electric Lightning
Avro Vulcan B2
Supermarine Spitfire (early marks, elliptical wings, no cannons, merlin engine)
De Havilland Mosquito
North American P51 Mustang

Honourable mentions:
Rockwell B1 Lancer
Lockheed U1 Dragon Lady
Grumman F14 Tomcat
Sukhoi Su57 Felon
Sukhoi Su27 Flanker
Avro Lancaster
BAC TSR2
Northrop B2 Spirit
De Havilland DH 88 Comet

I'm a sucker for Phantom II.

Soz but this pretty aircraft stuff is rubbish. Everyone knows that the beauty queens only like the missionary position, what you really need are the freaks, the underdogs, the wingmen if you will. They'll give you a time you'll never forget. Ladies and gentlemen, the McDonnell XF-85 Goblin:

Ladies and gentlemen, the Stipa-Caproni.

The Stipa-Caproni, also known as the Caproni Stipa, was an experimental Italian aircraft designed in 1932 by Luigi Stipa (1900–1992) and built by Caproni. It featured a hollow, barrel-shaped fuselage with the engine and propeller completely enclosed by the fuselage—in essence, the whole fuselage was a single ducted fan. Although the Regia Aeronautica (Italian Royal Air Force) was not interested in pursuing development of the Stipa-Caproni, its design influenced the development of jet propulsion.

Lockheed SR71 Blackbird

Actually my favourite of all time, not for the looks though but it is spectacular anyway.

Concorde

The best delta wing design? Sorry Vulcan fans it looks a bit ill-proportioned in comparison…

Now those are out of the way,

De Havilland Comet

Pretty much nailed the commercial design proportions so early on and those integrated engines are so sleek it’s beautiful in BOAC guise with silver wings. Basically a pioneer of modern aviation laced with plenty of tragedy unfortunately.

Lockheed F117A Nighthawk

Still appears like it travelled back in time to meet us.

North American P51-D Mustang

My favourite looking WW2 era plane I think. Those integrated wing machine guns are cool.

General Dynamics F16 Fighting Falcon/Viper

Didn’t see mentioned yet - to me if someone says ‘fighter jet’ it’s what I see - timeless design and looks aggressive as it should.

Seems I like mostly older stuff, growing up watching Gerry Anderson stuff probably also explains a few too. This thread proves how subjective design can be. I guess anything can be beautiful to someone!
