Diamond cut alloys - clearcoat/lacquer failing - warranty?

Can't be much less than that to get them powder coated once you take into account time/hassle?

Probably about £50-60 a corner, so quite possibly not! Plus the risk they get damaged again before I return it and end up paying for the damage anyway...

won't matter - salt....

Which would suggest not fit for purpose...

Took it to the local Kia dealer, this morning, the "inspection" consisted of taking photos of the wheels to send to Kia, could I not have just done this myself?!

However on the plus side, no charge for it, and I have the rest of the day off :D

Should find out next week if it's covered (can't see why it wouldn't be, but we shall see...)

Do you think the wife will get away with hers on her lease Clio when she returns it.................. (This is the reason she's banned from driving my car :D !!)

:D

These are her last MOT's, god knows how she does it, well, actually god does, ramping up kerbs, not slowing for speed bumps, not taking care of her car generally etc......... (all by reputable garages, either main dealer or local family run with impeccable history), the 2021 MOT when i questioned her about the car she said it had been scraping over speed bumps and knocking for about 6-8 months and she just thought it was some loose plastic underneath, the garage reckoned she'd broken the springs (think it was them) which led to the resulting damage to the rest of the suspension/tyres:

I very rarely get in the car with her driving. It's scarier than riding Nemesis at Alton Towers without a safety harness....

I noticed when washing the car over the weekend that the clearcoat on 3 of the 4 alloys is peeling quite badly.

Interestingly, I got the car used, and when I got it, I noticed that one of the wheels had a little yellow sticker on it (which incidentally I've found impossible to remove!). This is the only one which is not peeling (and in fact basically looks brand new).

Coincidence? Or as I suspect, a hint that this particular wheel was refurbished/replaced in the past...

The wheels have no physical damage to them, never been kerbed, and only been washed with normal car shampoo, no harsh acidic cleaners, the failure looks like it's started from the centre cap.

It's a 4.5 year old Kia, so this should be covered under the 5 year paintwork warranty right? (is this classed as paintwork) Going to speak to them later/over the weekend, but if anyone can give me some ammo to back up my argument in case they decline it, that would be handy!

Failing that - any ideas roughly what I would be looking at in terms of charges when returning the car at end of lease? Looking at the BVRLA guidelines, any damage where there is bare metal exposed is outside of wear and tear :(
Our Kia wheels are 2023 and 9500miles, no curbing and they are flaking lacquer.

Had OEM Skoda diamond cut wheels, 3 ish years old, 18k odd miles and perfect condition!

3 x of the 4 wheels on my BMW have corroded terribly. The only reason the 4th hasn’t is i put a new one on last year as the original wheel cracked.

Really awful wheel quality frankly, BMW don’t care and i’m not talking curbing i’m talking corrosion.

Yeah, BMW are atrocious for their complete lack of a wheel warranty. Mercedes cover wheels for corrosion caused by manufacturing defects, but not kerb or stone chip damage, for 3 years. They replaced one of my previous E class's wheels with absolutely no quibble, even though the corrosion was measured at only 6mm.

I think she just needs to be banned from driving in general

I'm guessing she noshed off her examiner to get a pass certificate....

To be fair quite a lot of that can happen after a winter of heavy salting especially if they do it and it rains :( though not the gashes/gouges - one of my sets of diamond cut alloys wormed badly after the winter of 2021 when they went nuts on the road salt around here :( one of the reasons I went for plain black alloys for my winter set on my Navara.

Everyone I've kno n with diamond cut wheels has experienced corrosion after a few years. Some have had them recut but it never lasts.

The only solution seems to be a refurb in paint or powder coat.

I can only assume that they require fastidious cleaning and relaquering to keep them in good condition? For an every day road car they seem almost as impractical as polished wheels!

What the actual F...

Where does she drive to work? A quarry?
I nearly had to RMA my rig from spitting my drink over the desk
That's comment of the week/month for me :D

To anyone looking for a refurb in general with diamond cut wheels, there is a limit to the amount of times you can do it - probably irrelevant in this case, but something to remember.
