What "man jobs" have you done today?

Not too shabby for a few hours work! I can get the tarpaulin over it now and leave it until I'm back in September.

We've had 34degC in the shade in the back garden, and rather than waste water I decided to support the nation's need of drinking water..
maybe you missed the part where i said, " i havent watered yet"...... i live 1500ft on the side of a mountain in south wales, we get enough rain to keep the gardens lush and green even in summer.

Back corner of house where the sheds go. Old decking removed as it’s rotten. This corner gets huge surface water run off, no idea why they went for wood. I’ll fill with chippings instead so that water can go underneath to the French drain nearby. When the sheds eventually go I’ll then extend the chippings and put a new shed on top.

Some more decking still to go to the right, but will get the chippings first. I reckon a tonne to get started. Going to have to move it all by hand which is annoying, but I’ve done it before.

Digging an inspection pit and I've come across some squishy grey material - almost looks like some kind of rubber insulation paste?

The ground is quite clay heavy but this is a very "artificial" and consistent grey colour. And it's in a solid patch. It feels almost like blu tac, slightly softer.

Any ideas what it is? Perhaps insulation material laid over/around the gas supply? House is 1960s built and I know I'm near ish to where the gas pipe runs (and possibly electric supply)

Big man job today.

Been to Lidl and stocked up with Ice creams.

Just building myself up to do a don't want to do job. Back door lock is playing up and sticking - Will take front door one out and swop them. See wether it's lock or mech in door. I think it's 1.000C outside back door.

Hovering over the order button. Think I’ll start with 1 tonne of 20mm grey stone. Also going to go with the small bags to save me shovelling it from the front drive, can just carry/wheel the bags. Even if I’m short, it should create a platform where I can then store another tonne ready to expand into the rest of the rotten areas, at least until the sheds finally go, I think they have a good few years left though.

I doubt I’ll bother filling the whole depth. A few inches should do.

I think ‘if only the regulator allowed investment in the past instead of prioritising as low bills as possible’ is the statement you are looking for.

However in a zero regulation scenario we'd end up with sky high bills, poisonous water, untreated sewage, no investment and big sharegholder payouts.

Yup but that’s a bit of a straw man argument because we do have a regulator (two in fact) and a large proportion of the mess the water industry is in is down to them.

Not sure if it counts, but I decided (in my lunacy) that the best time to wash the carpets was when it was around 30c...

My theory being it'll help them dry quicker, although I think that may have been rather offset by the amount of sweat dripping off me:p (more seriously, I was pleasantly surprised how well the vax picked up the water and how fast it dried out).
