It's too hot :(

Oh, there's showers in the vicinity, has no idea we were expecting rain tonight!

Think they've revised the max temperature for Monday down in Hampshire, now forecast 22C max, woohoo! :D

Definitely revised it down here - we were forecast 29C, now 23C and Tuesday was 25 or 26C and now 19C with chance of thunderstorms.

Funny all the talk of extreme weather but these heatwaves so far have been pretty tame really compared to some years in the past - several of the years in the late 90s had week(s) long heatwaves like the last couple of days with often hardly any cooling off at night, 2006 had a pretty brutal heatwave covering most of the July and it was pretty warm around it as well, 1-2 other years in the early 2000s had much longer heatwaves than anything we've had in recent years.

Dark and cloudy in South Wales at last with some rain earlier and more forecast for later, 17.5c outside but still a ridiculous 26c indoors. Going to take a good while for that to start dropping.

Rain currently forecast all day tomorrow :D

Don't forget not long ago the news were spouting that it was "the hottest it's been in 50-60 years"? IIRC it was during or after COVID? Anyway it was in the mid 30's in London etc, I remember my mate sending me a screenshot of the weather in his area in London, and it was 34-36C at one point, disgusting.

Its getting hotter, these events are now common. What was once exceptional is now routine.

2 houses burned down here yesterday... Crazy. One only a street away from me.
It's only been hot for a week... Looks like we got another week of 30+. Happy I'm at work again with HVAC and lots of lovely freezers.
Urgh.

Sure frequency of extreme heat events, but when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s long hot summers were more usual than not - these days we get a lot of dull weather with a few short blips of hot days.

Rain forecast for 1pm so I’ve packed the garden cushions away. Looks like a wet rest of the week. Bet you it’ll throw it down all day when I’m at Oasis on Sunday :(

The logic of a hotter climate ought to in my mind result in higher variances (speed, volume, density of pressure systems in the north/south hemispheres), honestly this is probably one of the times where it's beneficial for reducing the flood risk (so long as it doesn't yo-yo between drought-dreich which would be fantastically worse).

The data doesnt back that up.

Sure the mean summer temperature has increase a bit over the years but in terms of long hot summery weather we rarely get it like it used to be - 1990, 95, 96, 97 all had long hot summers (i.e. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_British_Isles_heatwave ) with prolonged periods of weather like we've had over the last few days and even when the "heatwave" was short the days around were not far off, rather than the sporadic short heatwaves we've had in recent years with lots of cool days between them. 2003 and 2006 were similar - 2006 had almost 12 consecutive days above 30C. Many of the summers in the 80s had like 2 consecutive weeks (up to 40 days) of temperatures over 27C, etc. - we rarely get that now.

The heatwaves in recent years have been quite tame compared to the blocks of consecutive days of it being like the last few days.

Not just mean summer temperature no, numbers of hot days has increased and continues to do so.

Nobody is arguing heatwaves never occured before but its an odd take to claim our summers are now a few hot days interspread with long cool periods.
