When I was young, I was a noob and used those metal self screw plugs to put up the curtain rail.
The curtain rail has just fallen out of the wall and the plasterboard is badly damaged.

Now I'm older and wiser I've been using Fisher duos and since not had this problem.

How can I fix this? Or is it a case of redrilling a bit a long from the damage.

Edit. These are floor to ceiling patio door curtains and are fairly heavy.

Presuming its a solid wall behind? If so, fill with gap filler/sticks like etc. Wait to harden. Flatten off and re-drill/plug.

If it were me, i'd cut out anything loose, fill it in with filler/paint and then drill your holes deep enough to get into the brick/block work for the fischers

Yeah it's an outer wall.
Not sure where the lintel is.. Will have to check.

Any particular materials you guys can recommend to fill it out?

Also a fan of the Duos btw. Especially the 65mm ones for exactly this job. The added benefit of filling the gap and using longer plugs will be a secure fit without pulling/crushing the plasterboard into the void.
I hate dot and dab with a passion. :D

And decent filler will do, just make sure you don’t buy the light weight / quick dry variety (they are generally **** but also not made for this job.

Something like easifill is the gold standard but I wouldn’t suggest you go out and buy a 5kg bag for this. A small pot of generic ready mixed from screwfix will also do the job just fine.

Thanks everyone thought it would be a fill and redrill thing.

Can redrill right on top of the filled location? I'm guessing so, but it's not something I've ever done. Ideally I would drill in the same spot.

You can but if you moved the location slightly that would be ideal. The fresh board will be more sound. The important part is getting into the blocks for something heavy like full length curtains.

Make sure you fully fill the holes and not just on the surface if you are re-drilling.

I'll fill them deep. I'm guessing that means it will take a while to be able to be drilled?

I'll see if I can move the curtain pole over. Even if it's a little.

If you can't move the rail, you might even be able to reuse the existing holes without so much as repairing it if you use the long dot and dab style fischer plugs that go all the way through into the block work. Repairing it might yield no benefit, since the existing holes may even need to be expanded bigger, and the rail mount itself may cover any damage when all pulled back into place. Hard to tell from the pic how big the holes are.

They are 6-7mm I think. Maybe a bit bigger now with the damage

Wetnfix. They are on Amazon

Designed for exactly for your situation.

Used them before and they seem to be good, well the curtain in still up.

Do the curtain brackets cover the damage?

And presumably it’s a dot and dab PB wall on block work?

If so I wouldn’t bother repairing it. Get some corefix dot and dab fixings. Drill through the existing holes into the block work. Install the corefix plugs and reinstall the brackets. Easiest and strongest.

Can vouch for these monsters, they're holding up all my kitchen cabinets with vast amounts of stuff in them.
