What PC games are you playing?

To be fair, most games work fine on Linux these days (with a little tinkering needed on occasion). I use Linux Mint personally and, other than online games with anti-cheat that go out of their way to block Linux (Bungie is a great example, and a company that will never get another penny from me) I rarely have problems. I even play PCVR games on Linux with ALVR and I believe Valve are working on finally getting Steam Link to work on Linux, so after 8 years there is nothing that would drag me back to Windows :).

If you go steady, overlap fields of fire and leave some action points for reactions then it's pretty straightforward. Don't walk into a new area without some backup and enough points to get back out. Once you get a bit further in you can cheese it.
Terror from the deep was much harder.
My troops almost always miss when shooting. I think I need to work on steps and hidding, like you said, but they have so small amount of movement points. I dont even know what other abilities/values do. Need to learn what the HUD says...

What is the best strategy starting the game?

UFO: Enemy unknown - first mission, easy diff level, I get killed, all my team in first encounter. Was it so hard back in a days?

Weirdly, I was thinking of playing this and hoping it would be out on a mobile device just to play it casually. It was hard(ish) in the day, you had to ensure you had cover and leave some APs so that if an alien came into sight you could have a pop shot at it. Just take it steady and conserve.

From memory, always take as many troops as possible and spread out in all directions when you dismount. Space your guys out so they can't all be taken out at once but have them in positions where you can get multiple shots at the bad guys when they pop up. As m4cc45 said leave some points for snap shots, I think there's a toggle on the interface to reserve some points. If changing stance improves accuracy then do that as well. Do research, make mini bases with an interceptor in other places to keep the politicians happy.

I went with the Russian doctrine and didn't bother with training the little meat bags or kitting them out in the best gear. Mid tier gear and throw them in there, many shots with laser weapons will deal with most problems .Use battlefield pick ups to equip later. Troopers are replaceable, comrade.

What I did find useful was to go in hard on manufacturing, make tons of laser rifles as they didn't need special resources to build and sold them to get plenty of money to do everything else.

Sacked Two Point Hospital. Not a bad game at all, just wasn't feeling it. Maybe I'll try again in the future.

So last night I had a look through my Steam list and went for an older game i've yet to play. Astroneer. Also highly compatible on Linux

What a cool wee game and bloody addictive! Can't believe i've not played this yet, nearly 10 year old game. Didn't want to go to work this morning but instead just play this.

Astroneer is strangely addictive. Spent so much time try to flatten base area though.

My main game is Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind. Nearly 7000 hours played in total. Also Total Annihilation and occasionally Civilization II. They don't show on Discord as "currently playing" because they are on a Windows XP system.

Is that the game where you have to fanny about with tether points? Think that killed it for me.
It is. I'm loving it. Currently just destroying the planet, strip mining the lot. Complete and utter destruction of all eco systems. That's what I'm telling myself anyway

 7000 !!

Star Wars Jedi Survivor, it's pretty decent, quite into it now, way smoother running than the stutter fest previous game!

A friend has been trying to entice me to try Dune, but having watched a few videos I've not been that tempted. Got a Days Gone & DLC code from work recently that I am debating whether to give a go, struggling a bit with starting anything at the minute though!

Is there 7000 hours content, you had time to play Skyrim yet?

I've tried Skyrim and Oblivion but I like the feel of Morrowind much more. I've played a few times as a male High Elf for the racial advantages, with different personal priorities. At the moment I'm playing a female Breton because she looks nice. Without the large spell-casting advantages of previous play-throughs I'm learning alternative strategies.
