Who has a WHOOP band and how are you getting on with it?

Anyone else wear a Whoop and an Apple Watch?
What band are you using, I've got my Watch on a Spigen Lite Fit Ultra Band, and just stuck the Whoop4 on there as well, but wondering if there are better options out ther.e.

Noticed MVDP is wearing his during the Tour. Would be great if they shared his data at the end. Also wearing what looks like a Richard Mille on his other wrist. Few hundred grand in that no doubt.

See it a lot more in the mountain biking where they show the strain build as the race goes on with current hr etc.

Not gonna lie, I would be very surprised if these guys are genuinely using the whoop in races and not a chest HR monitor. From my experience with the Whoop, once you get to the extreme ends of effort its HR monitoring is junk. I thought I had a medical issue because the whoop was being picked up by my Zwift setup instead of my chest HR monitor and was doing weird things on hard efforts.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are using them generally but its more a sponsorship/marketing deal than for actual proper performance monitoring.

I'm sure they are. I would imagine the Whoop is more for general tracking. I did almost post, we see them wearing them on their wrists, but if they were really relying on them, I don't know why they wouldn't wear them on their bicep? (Reddit general opinion is this is how you get more accurate numbers. It's definitely been my experience. I compared chest strap to bicep Whoop and found them almost identical)

Was that when you were around your HR max? It tracked very well until I got around my max HR.

Wearing my Whoop for 'day to day' really as noticed when I rode it a few times tracking against chest (TICKRv2) on Zwift it cut the tops off the spikes, looked almost like a 'smoothing' but the average and steadier consistent efforts where pretty much bang on so it just lost tracking the short harder efforts.

Recently doing some TTT's have revisited the Whoop as using steering my chest strap doesn't stay connected with Companion bridge, but Whoop does. Last Thursday I jammed it (while riding) further up my forearm and it seemed to get more accurate, but annoyingly didn't capture the chest data to compare. Seemed to max out at 186bpm with my max being around 191bpm so would consider that pretty close. Or at least higher than I've seen the Whoop go before!? I have a couple where I tracked the TICKRv2 but not exactly alongside, just struggled with using the zwiftpower analysis tool to show them both on a graph and the differences. Will revisit as sure that used to work...

We're getting quite cycling specific here, but just for completeness - I'm going to try fitting my whoop top of the forearm muscle which I've seen some cycling Pro's wear and see if it seems more accurate. Else will try bicep, just don't have the strap for it, but being a few weeks away from renewal won't get one. Still need to decide between 5.0 and MG... Hmmm!

Am fairly sure I want MG for the ECG side of things as my father suffering from arrhythmia is something that allowed me to justify the Whoop initially, thinking it might spot something. So the fact the Mg now has specific tech for it...

Sensorwise, what is actually on a Whoop?
Have been seeing a few adverts for 'apps' that use the existing sensors on the Apple Watch and do essentially the same thing as Whoop..

Only really trialling the Whoop at this stage as someone at work upgraded to the 5 so gave me her 4, wanna see what the new Apple Watch does, as I'll deffo be upgrading my Series 7 this year, just hope they add some actual new features this year..

Bevel is the app you want.

The hardware for whoop looks fairly straight forward - as @Shadowness says 'just' HR and O2 sensors (SpO2) - has some kinda skin temperature one too?

DCR says the 4.0 has 5 sensors - https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/11/whoop-platform-review.html# - 3x green, 1xred, 1xIR

The main thing you're paying for with Whoop is the platform. Sensor is useless without it, so although the hardware is fairly 'meh' from an accuracy viewpoint and cost perspective. It's what they're doing with the data and the app showing you that the real value comes from...

Bevel, thats the thing, and the Series 10 has a skin temp sensor does it not, so the Series 11 should have at least that and more..

App is streets ahead of any competitors I've used. Even the giants like Garmin in particular.

Ahh so you use it then, what Apple Watch do you use?
I meant the whoop app :) . I don’t have an Apple Watch, I use a Garmin Fenix when I need to. Wife has an Apple Watch and it’s not for me, battery life the main reason.

So renewal happened... I tried a 'trick' to try and see if I'd get a discounted renew offered by actually letting my renew fail (card on account had expired), but it renewed anyway. Drat!

So just renewed as Peak with my 4.0 at £229 for the year. May as well go for the 5.0 free upgrade to gain from the increased battery life? Figure I can use my 4.0 until I activate/enable on the 5.0 and pair it?

Anyone need a 4.0 with a couple of straps (think I have 2 blacks, a darker gray/blue and a lighter grey/blue) and 2 charging pods - let me know. Would want a bit of money for it to cover the cost of pods & straps - as will likely buy an extra charger for the 5.0 and fairly sure I'll get bored of the plain black strap...
