Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

He had a great season last year I’ll give you that but prior three league wise didn’t get past 9 goals hardly £70m

I mean I think good on Brentford getting the fee as club is ran well and they invest well.

Utd will no doubt ruin him anyway poor bloke should go elsewhere
Yeah he played for little old Brentford... we have less of the ball, create fewer chances, etc. He's also moved from RW to striker and back. TBF he scored 9 goals from 21.3 x 90 mins the season before last, which is very decent (~15 goals across a full season). And he missed almost a quarter of the prior season too despite scoring 9 too.

Basing that fee primarily on his goals from last season would be an error. United buying an extremely talented player, with an incredible all-round game. That said, if you did want to take goals into account, he scored more last season than Elanga has in his entire career and Madueke has in his last four seasons combined, yet he's only costing £10m for than the former and £15m than the latter.

Mbuemo is a good player. I've seen him a couple of times live and he's a lot better off the ball than he looks on TV. Good work rate which will be a novelty for Man Utd.

Just typical United - If they get him, they will probably have paid £20-30million over his actual "value"

If they don't - What's the next target/plan? It's very very standard stuff despite all the "changes" at United - same slow morbid transfer window again.

Yes - restrictions due to FFP but would love to know what the back up plan is if Brentford say no

Need I remind anyone that Arsenal paid £65m for Kai Havertz and £80m for Nicolas Pepe (whoever that might be).
I'll think you'll find that Arsenal signing Pepe was amazing business as they spread the fee over 3 years. At least that was our resident Gooners view at the time he signed.

Yes but there is a bit a lot of "oh it's United lets ask for silly money" going on.

Rock and a hard place!

Assuming the Ekitike deal goes through with the loss of Jota and Nunez likely to leave I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool go after a 2nd striker, several have been linked.

Hopefully the Mbeumo deal gets done now. Surely this must be the fee Brentford have asked for?

It’s a lot of money but he’s a proven player in the league, not quite sure where Amorim plans to play him but we shall see!

Did Mbuemo only have one year left on his contract? Did they have an option to extend or something? 65m plus add-ons seems a lot for one year remaining.

I'm not sure you can say he's worth 40-50m considering the other fees being paid.

As I said in relation to talk of Newcastle going for Ekitike with Isak at the club, if you're spending big money on a striker (and you only play with 1) then back-ups are very difficult. We're not going to spend big on a 2nd striker and even if we did, you'll struggle to keep two of them happy so the alternative is either a prospect or somebody probably not good enough. It's much easier to have players like Jota, Diaz & Gakpo, that can play in multiple positions because there's more opportunity for them to play.

That said, I think we're a forward short right now (assuming Ekitike in and Nunez out). On paper 5 into 3 doesn't seem too bad but with AFCON and Chiesa being one of the 5, I think we're a senior forward short. As above though, I wouldn't be looking at a striker but another wide player. If Diaz stays then it doesn't necessarily need to be somebody that can play through the middle too - him and Gakpo can cover the CF role. If Diaz does leave though then I think we need 2 more wide players and at least one needs to be able to play centrally too.

Something that makes Rodrygo really interesting is that he can play in all 3 positions. Although his favoured position is on the left, he's had to play a lot centrally or on the right due to Vinicius (and Mbappe) favouring the left too.

Thats a lot of pizza...
