*** The Official iPhone 17 thread (it has new camera bumps and everything!) ***

I used to upgrade every year. Dumb, I know.

Glad I waited. The 17 design is looking good ! Don’t understand why a lot hate it.

I still upgrade every year. Costs me £50 p/m on average so I can justify it using man maths!

I buy the phone outright from Apple, I don’t pay my contract as the work pays that. I stick £50 away each month into a high interest saver - usually one of the regular savers.

Sell the phone + that pot pays for it.

Works for me!

I’m thinking of going to the PM again this year but not sure. I just wish they’d release a bloody yellow or red pro!

Looks great. Would love to see. Don't need to Upgrade till at least the 18 phones. As I Only got my 16PM in December after the charging port failed on my S23U which id of kept for another year if it didn't break.

I've been looking at Android foldable phones and just wishing Apple would do the same. I could merge my iPhone and iPad into one device that would be so much more convenient. I guess we have to wait until 2026 for that though. At least if get the 17 Pro Max it'll have a decent trade in value next year.

I’d be surprised if Apple brought a foldable anytime soon. The ones I’ve looked at still haven’t nailed the screen tech and hinges to a level Apple will insist on.
Probably true. I guess I can wait :D. I should probably try the public beta on my iPad to see if it makes me use it more.

Foldables are overhyped, I just cant see myself using it like that. If I wanted to multitask that bad Ill just use my PC or laptop

I've been watching some of the reviews of the latest Samsung ones, and I believe Dave2D made a good point about their actual use case and what not. Would recommend a watch!
I'll have a look! Thanks. The main use case I was thinking of was using it as an eBook reader where having a wider screen is really helpful.

Oh yeah there are definitely certain use cases where it'll be super useful, but for me I just dont think ill ever need one as I wont make enough good use of it!

Maybe in the future though

Hardware/Design Wishlist:
1) Faster charging and port speed - 60w wired charging, 20w wireless charging, Thunderbolt 4/5 data speed (40/80gbps)
2) Touch ID in power button
3) Increased display resolution/PPI
4) Better battery technology - Stacked batteries, silicon carbide or graphene even

Software:
1) better camera features for slow mo
2) be able to get ID on phone wallet (UK especially)
3) be able to use the action button for more than 1 action. i.e single tap vs double tap vs long press etc etc

Roughly what date does the new iphones get released ?

I may upgrade as my iphone 14 pro max is getting a bit tatty these days and the battery health is not great.

But am still not sure if i will upgrade as i was only planning to upgrade if i did drop it at some point and break the screen or rear glass

If it’s the same as most years pre order should be 13:00 on Friday 12th Sep then delivery the following Friday.

This might be my imagination but I seem to recall that some previous phones only supported some video modes if you had one with 512GB+ of storage. Is that still the case? I'm planning on getting the 17PM and wondering what storage size I should get. Other than photos and video I have very limited storage requirements.

I think that was for the pro raw video mode IIRC. I would wait until the phone releases just to see if thats now changed or whether you still need the higher storage

Very interested to see if the rumoured nano texture glass option does appear with the iPhone 17. I'm not especially a fan of glossy displays so I'd be interested to try a phone with a more matte screen.
