NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

5090 FE arrived today. First thing I tested was the Doom: Dark Ages benchmark with Path Tracing at Ultra settings - Ran fine, multiple times with no issues.

Then in the game menu I turned on Frame Gen x2...(I never use frame gen, just testing how it ran)

Within 20 seconds, the computer BSOD with a "Video Scheduler Internal Error"

Now as soon as the game boots to the menu screen I get the BSOD.

What do we think might have occured? The joys of upgrading GPU's
Try deleting any settings files for that benchmark so that it thinks it hasn't yet been run and try again.

Oh and don't enable MFG

Did you clean install drivers?

Did you clean install drivers?
I did, yes.

I don't have a lot of games installed, but I tested Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth to check that other programs weren't affected and that ran fine.

Edit - managed to get in to the game long enough to turn off Nvidia frame generation and it seems to be running fine again.

Would like to know what's causing the issue though.

You got the latest driver and or is it undervolted? I had to adjust my undervolt for the game but does run fine at 4k ultra settings, path tracing and balanced DLSS.
I had a similar problem/crash when I overclocked my ram/changed timings, but changing it back fixed it. It will be some daft setting, never plug and play these days eh...

@VincentHanna I was originally using driver 576.52 (originally installed on 4090 to test it out before switching to Palit 5090.)

I didn't have that many issues with it. I noticed 0 issues with the 4090, but only tested for a few weeks or so. I had random black screen crashes in certain games with the 5090 on the same driver though.

I tried installing the latest 576.88 driver recently after waiting a while to see if they ironed any issues out. It was absolutely horrible for me and was crashing all over the place and gave the first unrecoverable black screen (forced reboot.)

After doing some googling I heard some potentially good things about driver 572.83. I installed that and I have not had a single crash so far, but I am not confident there will not be one based on all the issues out there.

I would always keep drivers up to date in the past but this time it doesn't seem like they are sorting things out for all use cases. Maybe give an older one like 572.83 a go for a test.

Just an idea, Download DLSS Swapper and try updating the frame gen dll of that specific game.

5090 FE arrived today.

DPD delivered my 5080 too, nice surprise as I wasn't expecting it until tomorrow. I've got it installed in the new build but I'm still trying to cable manage everything before I properly fire it up to test as I'll end up distracted and never finishing the job. :D

It rather dwarfs my current 3060 Ti too:

I'm getting the "You vs the friend your missus tells you not to worry about" vibes from that picture!

Aye, I picked the cheapest delivery so was surprised to receive it today

I did have DPD coming anyway with something else so maybe that's why I got it early.

We don’t use the word ‘fire’ here.

I never tire of these comparison photos, haha. Enjoy the card! Are you upgrading your monitor, too?

Starting to get fed up with these 5090s now! I had to return my MSI Ventus due to black screen issues and now the Zotac that I replaced it with has got a rattling fan when running at 75% speed. Very annoying!

So far my new 5090 Astral is working like a charm, no coil whine, no issues with black screens and no issues with fans. Though it's still early days, I think Ive touched lucky.

Early days yet, 12V-2x6 could slowly back out on its own over time leading to a slow melt and before you know it... random black screens, System reboots and eventually a small flame leading to a lengthy RMA with OCUK telling you they will get stock next week but next week comes and stock is still a no show, So you call them and now they don't know if they will ever get your card in ever again but then 1 of the employees on the forum tells you something entirely different.

It's pure chaos !

When I got my FE a few weeks back I ordered it on a Friday afternoon. I chose regular free delivery (since I'm a forum member over there) and was suprised it turned up less than 24hrs later Saturday morning.

I'm sorry you're having such a ****** experience mate, that sounds incredibly frustrating!

One thing with the Astral, not sure if this is the case on all 5090's, is the included software GPU Tweak 3 shows if the wire is seated properly and shows the power running through each cable.

That said I do intend to buy a Thermal Grizzly Wireview Pro for that physical sense of security.
