What TV shows are you currently watching

Clarkson’s Farm S6 8.5/10
An interesting story, informative and entertaining even if you just want to work out the % of reality.
Narrow Escapes S2 8/10
Another series that has gained depth by losing the shallow mini stories and it’s better for it. Lots of mostly interesting from often quirky characters tell stories across a lot of episodes. A rather realistic reflection of life on the inland waterways.

Just finished binging season 2 and 3 of Squid Games.

I enjoyed season 2 well enough, not as good as 1 but still enjoyable. Season 3 is pretty rough though. I can’t get my head around just how badly acted the billionaires are.

Whitechapel. An old ITV/BBC series from 2009-2013.

The usual err... not sure what to watch tonight. This popped up on Netflix. 4 seasons and short run (3 episodes per season for series 1-2) made it worth a punt.

Rupert Penry-Jones is a newly appointed DI at London's Whitechapel station; a location synonymous with one of the UKs most infamous serial killers. Its pretty good with a likeable cast.

I really enjoyed this when I saw it years ago, will definitely rewatch, and you're right about the excellent cast - RPJ, Phil Davis and Steve Pemberton. It slipped under the radar a bit, but I think a lot of people will enjoy it.

Watched the first two parts of Karen Pirie season 2 last night - saving the concluding part 3 for tonight after the women's footie

Well this was interesting as it basically confirmed a long held belief I've had.

Last night I watched 3 episodes of Police Squad, had a good laugh then decided to check how many episodes there were. Was amazed to find there were only ever 6 episodes and it was cancelled after the 4th episode aired. A reason given for the cancellation (which a tv mag gave as the most stupid reason for ending a show) was that people had to pay attention to what was going on onscreen to get some of the jokes. Leslie Nielson apparently later said he thought it was better suited to the big screen rather than the tv as there was more screen space for people to notice what was going on.

I've always found American humour to be very "in your face" like the joke has to be made blatantly obvious or people might not get it, the cancellation of this kind of confirmed that.

Yeah American humour is weird. Aside form South Park and my post above about Righteous Gemstones! I never watched Police Squad as Im not into that type of humour but it seemed to be on all the time on TV so surprised at so few episodes

Yeah American humour is weird.

There is a weird variation to it - I used to play Quake 3 in American leagues and some of the communities I hung out in were much more European like - both of the clans I played for were made up of people with above average intelligence and totally got English kind of humour, etc. (albeit both also had some Canadians), while others were totally stereotypical unsubtle America and sometimes I had to be quite careful not to accidentally cause offence.

Obviously everywhere has some variation but it was much more extreme than the UK when it came to intelligence, outlook, sense of humour, etc.
