This was a weird one for me. I have done 2 playthroughs to date so enjoy it, and maybe it is just being a massive Andy for the original games, but it never hit the mark overall. It feels as though somewhere along the way it lost it's identity as a Stalker game.
The map is far too big, you spend half the game running and chugging energy drinks.I feel similar. I love the graphics and recreated locations. It feels good most of the time but the world seems so empty. Almost like the map is too big
This! The map is far too big, you spend half the game running and chugging energy drinks.
This!
What a wasted opportunity this game was; despite its laughable bugs/framerate issues, it was such an empty game despite its vastness.
The last third of the game is just endless padding out of the map, pointlessly trekking for miles to just speak to someone for 5 seconds, then guess what, we're off to the other side of the map again, then repeat for hours and hours.
This was the most overhyped, disappointing game I've ever played. And I put 60-something hours into trying to love it and seeing as much as possible.
It also doesn't even look how it did in the trailer; even at max settings 4K DLSS, it doesn't look current nor next gen.
We were majorly lied to; there was no need to release an unfinished product. We could have waited years if needed.

Yeah, vast nothingness, as it were!I tend to agree here , atmosphere and gunplay are great but its just too empty.
I do however think the game can look incredible at times, especially in the lighting department.
I'd say the map is far too small. The map is far too big, you spend half the game running and chugging energy drinks.
Nope, I spent nearly 60 hours finishing the story, then reloaded various saves, playing out the different scenarios/endings, and it still was majorly underwhelming.I've been sitting waiting for all the bugs and fixes for this too work their way through, the game has seen many sizable patches, is now a good time to jump in ?
I kinda like stalker2 and am on a 2nd play thru. I agree with the feel that there isn't enough going on at times, and a lot of treking for not a lot of payback at time, but other times it is pretty good. I like the idea of having a selection of artifacts with different abilities and finding really good ones.
What similar games would people here recommend, single player, first person, survival, open play area ? I really don't get on with the genre of game that means if you die you lose everything (extraction)
I'm hearing good things for RDR2, the off put for me is that the timeline that its set in means there isn't going to be much/any various of weapons, armor etc. So I'm not sure there is going to be much character progression/enhancement/upgrade opportunities.
I really loved KCD, but I can't get into KCD2.
I've found adding crafting and looting mods has given the game more feel to it. I know crafting etc isn't for everyone and I can take it or leave it to be honest. I've also reduced weapon degradation and cost of repairs.
I may have had one CTD in however many hours I've been playing and it's always run smoothly for me.
Tangey - I've tried a couple of times to get into RDR2 and I just can't, it's not for me.
In reply to both of you, I feel like 'at times' it has 'it's moments' but that isn't what we're paying for, nor should you have to make the best out of a bad situation?
There are some parts when you start to think, "oh this feels like what I was sold" then it quickly ends and goes back to generic bland'ness?
It's very generic and reliant on the big empty world, which constantly looks like a texture copy and paste blur. I feel like, if they had made it half the size, and put twice the effort into making the map dense with lots going on/variety, it would have been good? I think that's a fair analogy?
RDR2 destroys this, and never once was I bored! the plot/characters alone, are worth it, let alone the far superior gunplay etc, and then there's the beautiful visuals/landscape...
The plot of RDR2 was so deep/vast, that I feel like I couldn't replay it, because there was so much going on that I remember, that I just know how it ends, and it was such a long/vast story, that I'm happy with my single stint - which I've never felt like with any other game; in the best possible way though.
I have tried 3 times to replay it, and it almost feels insulting to do so, because it was perfect playing it blindly first and not knowing what was coming next?
This makes zero senseI really loved KCD, but I can't get into KCD2.
and yet it is absolutely trueThis makes zero sense
Crazy, it doesn't sound like you got very far into it.Yet ive tried countless times to get into RDR2 and failed every single time due to boredom, the most fun i got out of it was downloading the bounties mod and got up to all sorts of shenanigans.
The story bored me to tears.
