Women's Euros 2025 - July 2nd to 27th

England scraping through again - maybe just about deserved it. Key moment for me was Italy missing that 86th minute chance - a miskick, a save? Either way it didnt go in.

Not sure so much on time wasting, England still committed a number of fouls - pretty standard these days to take it easy when winning. Was it a penalty? Probably as there was two hands on her, however the dive forward a bit dramatic...I'd be pretty upset if that was against me.

Route one football for England seems to be the main tactic, crazy crosses attempted stats. With the height and strength upfront and a few fortunate bounces along the way, worked against Sweden and now Italy.

You have to have some luck to win tournaments, question is will England's run out? We shall see

Hmm ..on the one hand its pretty amazing that they keep scraping out a result..but on the other - they really arent playing well enough to deserve to be Champions again.

In major tournaments they seem to be steadily morphing inot the standard England (mens) pattern - under performing but somehow getting through to the final stages and then probably destined to fall at the final hurdle.

I felt Lauren James was off the boil last night. Quite a few times she didn't know whether to press and fully commit or track the runner behind her. She often ended up in that half way house where many a player has been, where she does neither very well. Her shot on goal was also a little blasé. Tracking back I often saw her jogging, whilst players like Russo were putting in the hard yards. I felt sorry for Russo often coming out of position to try and influence the play, which inevitably meant when England broke there was no target man in the box. I remember a lot of previous games England often had 3-4 players in the box and pressing forward on the attack. There seemed to be a lack of that, perhaps scared of being caught on the break. Hit and hope long balls over the top to try and catch the space behind Italy, but generally didn't have many ideas. Glad they won, but yes, two games that they've now scraped through.

Talk about missing an easy goal, that german player had all the time in the world with no one pressuring her and she kicked it wide of the goalmouth.

Bucketing it down now. Very nearly an extraordinary fluke winner for Germany there, but to extra time we go.
