not as lot of people know that

Everyone hates on Ryan-air, but even if you throw in all the extras and hold luggage charges, they are still cheaper than 99% of other flights.

It should be obvious as it's just basic maths, but not a lot of people know that as they can't do simple addition.

Most Ryanair customers probably ask their bank manager what their favourite colour is.

Bats and their tunnel are receiving bad publicity - but apparently they can eat up to 3000 midges a night - not a lot of people know that
(just need to provide more hospitality up North)

Tyrannosaurus Rex lived much closer to humans in time than Stegosaurus did. Stegosaurus lived during the Jurassic period, roughly 150 million years ago, while T. Rex lived during the Late Cretaceous period, about 66 to 68 million years ago. This means the time between T. Rex and humans is less than the time between Stegosaurus and T. Rex.

Rubbish, that dinosaur documentary with Jeff Goldblum disproved that theory.

On the subject of Jurassic park - I randomly watched a documentary about Velociraptors last night.

Contrary to the films portrayal, they are pretty damn small, more like an angry Turkey than a serious threat to a human.

As the scientist put it: 'if you found one in your kitchen, it would be more an opportunity for your dinner, than a threat to your life'

Yep, and they probably had feathers too.

Random JP related fact, in Jurassic World there's a scene where that massive sea dino thing jumps out of its enclosure and eats a helicopter. We have the fossil of that exact dino on the wall at the museum and it's actually about the size of a Ford Fiesta.

Hollywood does some amazing things :p

Tried this thread type myself and failed :D

lightning is significantly hotter than the surface of the sun. Lightning can reach temperatures of 30,000°C (54,000°F), which is about five times hotter than the sun's surface

stocks only go up.

I think we have Hurricanes rather than Tornadoes, but the premise still stands.

We definitely don't have hurricanes, they're tropical storms which form over warm oceans.

Tornados do happen in the UK, but are often just funnel clouds. The distinction being whether they touch the ground or not.

In old printing presses where you laid out letters and word stamps in rows to create the text, there were little wedges put in at the sides which were pressed against each other to compress the lines of text so they wouldn’t move.

The little wedges were called coins … and when you wedged in lines of text, you ‘coined a phrase’. ( at least thats my understanding )
When typesetters were laying out the letter blocks to create text and headlines for the mechanical printing presses they worked from cases of blocks of letters. As capital letters were used far less often they would be placed further away from the typesetter, usually on a raised shelf, with the non capital letters, used far more often were closer to the worker. This then brought about capital letters being called Upper Case, because they were stored in the upper case, or above the non capital, or as we now call them, lower case letters. I suspect though, a few more than not as lot of people know that.

But the further outer parts above the surface, called the corona and only visible during an eclipse, are millions of degrees!

Sharks are older than trees.
Sharks have been around for over 400 million years, while the first trees only appeared about 350 million years ago. So when the first tree popped up, sharks had already been cruising around the oceans for 50 million years.
Ah - another fan of 'The Ancients' podcast?

All of humanity today is thought to have descended from only 1300 individuals around a million years ago. There have been several such bottlenecks in our history where the reasonable expectation would be that we should have become extinct.

Not a lot of people know that.

The modern word cliche is derived from the perceived sound printing presses made. Stereotype is the name of the clay impression used to cast moveable type page a permanent one for popular printings.

Not a lot of people know that.

Coal all formed at a time when the first trees appeared, but before the fungus etc had evolved to break them down when they died.
