Yeah it puts him out of sync and at risk of a lot of people catching up with him towards the end, assuming the mediums don't last. Remember though, the Hard this weekend is offset and one tyre compound higher above the medium. Normally is a sequential set of compounds but they skipped one for the Hards for the first time for this race.
