What retro things have you done today?

So i've now popped a 4mb virge dx into the Packard bell, it's now taking a lot of will power not to buy a voodoo 2 for it.
I always wanted one back in the day but i'm pretty sure my wife would kill me based of current prices lol

I have just spent an hour straight away on this after arriving, I maybe need to calm down the Saturn games pickup but still have a few I really want like Panzer Dragoon and Die Hard Arcade.

I am being very careful with pricing at least, just adding to search on eBay and waiting for bargains.

Latest arrivals:

At the time of release I was really looking forward to Last Bronx as the latest Saturn game, then sold everything and bought an N64 instead so never played it.

I got this bundle for £50, I already have Virtua Cop 1 and 2 and Fighters Megamix so will sell those off individually and D, to get back as much of my investment back as possible.

I mainly wanted Panzer Dragoon Zwei and House of the Dead after realising the copy in my Virtua Cop bundle was a demo.
Japenese Saturn artwork and cases are so much better.

Got myself one of those HDMI sticks with loads of old arcade and console games on, currently playing Dungeons & Dragons : Warriors of the Eternal Sun from the MegaDrive around 1992, loved that game and spent many hours on it

I found a mystery game called Humphrey in the car boot yesterday, from Spectravideo and Mr Micro and it appears to be for the MSX. It's got no instructions with it, but does have bload "?", R to load on the tape itself, which points to MSX. On all the MSX games lists that I seem to find, it's not on the list, but did appear to be released for C64 / BBC Micro. Anyone any good with MSX games, does that sound right? :-)

Dont know about MSX but I had the game for the Commodore 64. I ripped that Humphrey screen out of the game and created a demo where I animated all the eyes to blink and the red dudes mouth to close then smile with teeth. Think it was just that screen with the Humphrey music over the top. My demos were pretty bad on the CBM 64 but its how I learnt to code back then before I got the Amiga to create more demo's. (To be honest they were pretty bad on the Amiga too :) )

Just taken delivery of a gigabyte GTX480 super Overclock edition. Never heard of it before until I did a quick read up as thought all the 480s were just nuclear reactors!

Turns out its a pretty crazy bit of kit that gigabyte threw out as a swansong for the generation, custom PCB, hand picked core etc etc all built for overclocking.

One showed up on eBay for £45 or best offer boxed and complete, offered £35 and got it.
Genuinely expected a brick to appear in a box but its powered on and booted to bios, so far so good!

Have a build it shall be going on soon when I get time and have my workshop back from house clear out and kids bikes :D

Awesome!!!
The Japanese saturn catalogue is amazing. If I ever get to Japan I'm taking an extra case to get loads of games home lol

I have been away with work for the week but these were waiting on me, I did say I wanted these still and managed to negotiate a discount on eBay with someone selling both separately.

When I first bought a Saturn when I was about 13, it came with Daytona, Virtua Fighter 2 and Panzer Dragoon and it was Panzer Dragoon which utterly blew me away.

Panzer has a poster and lots of original leaflets which was another dose of nostalgia.

Going to try and stop browsing eBay and start enjoying some starting with a full play through of Panzer Dragoon followed by the sequel.

Panzer dragoon was the game I wanted a Saturn for, was just so different to anything before it. Soundtrack was amazing too!

Dynamite Deka is a cracking game too. One I still need in my collection. Dare I ask what you had to pay for that one!

I got the pair for £52 inc delivery, I wanted good condition copies and Deka was looking like £42+ and Panzer Dragoon £20+.

Not bad for my first go in forever.

Picked up a pair of phat DS consoles 2 weekends ago, a pink one that had a broken hinge and a cracked top screen, the other was silver and also had a broken hinge but also had bent pins in the DS game slot.

I took the top screen out of the one with bent pins and fitted it into the other one to make sure it was fully working and then ordered a new shell from AliExpress, didn't get blue shell I wanted because they were doing an early bird offer on a gray Super Nintendo themed shell - which seems to be the latest limited edition at the minute.

When the shell arrived, I decided to use the screws and stuff from the DS with the bent pins to assemble the shell to check the quality before fitting it.

Here's the shell and the DS with the broken hinge that it's going on:

The finished result:

The power/charge light lens and battery terminals didn't fit properly which was stopping the bottom cover fitting flush, so I had to carefully make some adjustments with a sharp scalpel.

The aftermarket buttons didn't feel good at all, the power button was sticking and the shoulder buttons didn't feel right so I fitted the black set from the donor DS and they felt much better.

Then I decided that with the left over parts I could attempt a macro conversion that I saw on YouTube, ordered a pack of resistors, then when they arrived started to have a bash!

Fitting the surface mount resistor took a few attempts but I got there in the end:

I completely removed the DS game slot to make room for one of the speakers and then cut out a bit of the stylus holder to make room for the other speaker - but sadly with the speakers being at the bottom the sound is crap. (great with headphones plugged in though)

I'd like to paint it and do something with the parts above the screen where the top section was connected but I'll give it a week to see if it still works first!

Picked up an 8bitdo M30 2.4G on the cheap.

Feels a bit smaller than a regular 6 button Mega Drive pad but seems nice so far, will need to try a longer session with it.

The d-pad is perfect for Desert Strike and one of the primary reasons I got this, the 'copter controls so much nicer when you can just roll the pad.

I've just spent the last hour trying to restore my Packard bell from the master floppy and cd and it was all looking good until first boot.
It seems that there is a hard drive whitelist and it won't boot up on the replacement drive I've installed :(

I might have found an answer from Vogons but the site is down at the moment so for now I'll just install a fresh W98 to scratch the itch lol
