I am looking at putting together a little system for my niece. She mainly plays things like Sims and Planet Coaster at 1080p. She has bought herself a new monitor but needs the system. I have a machine she can have which is a 14100F with 32Gb of DDR4 3200Mhz, 1tb NVME etc but the graphics card in it currently is from my stockpile of old quadro cards. So i was considering the Sapphire 9060xt at £239 as i have the Pulse 9070XT in my rig and its a great card.

From what i can tell the performance is slightly better in most things than the RTX5060 8Gb so dont think its worth the extra £20 to go for the 5060. I cant see her having issues with either of the cards to be honest and was even considering the ARC B580 but would like to have her have as little issues as possible and not have update drivers often.

Any thought?

Save the £20 and get the extra few % performance at 1080p with the 9060...

Yeah I had pretty much decided with the 9060xt as it’s great for the price. As long as no one has some specific reason not to. Like I said my 9070xt is a great card.

Agreed but not a great deal you can do at the moment. I just noticed that Overclockers has now matched other place and is the same price. Still £269+ at other places tho.

aye it's unfortunate, especially for those of use of a fixed budget or just not prepared to overpay. i've been patiently waiting for 9070's (non xt) to drop closer to 450 (where they should really be) but sadly it's not looking like it's going to happen any time soon so i'm forced into looking at 9060xt's (16gb versions) as alternative - but 330 ish for one of those still feels like i'm being taken to the cleaners.

I know it's 60 pounds on a limited budget but I would get the 16gb version then the card will last her years. The other option is a 3060 12gb or 7600 16gb that way she's fine no matter how graphics go. I think 8gb does not cut it nowadays. I have 1 system with a 3070ti and 1 with a 9070xt and I can see the difference in the vram when I play satisfactory on the 3070ti I'm getting 144 hrtz but qualify of the rendering is noticeable

Yeah i was thinking that however she doesnt play anything too taxing and only at 1080p so if she does want to play any more graphically intensive games she will have to run them at medium, which would reduce the burden on vram. Unfortunately there is nothing on MM that is in that price range currently and i wanted to get it sorted for the weekend.

Do the right thing for your niece and get her the 16 GB version of the card. If you are budget-limited, get her the B580.

She is budget limited but from the benchmarks i have seen the B580 performs well under the performance of even the 8gb 9060xt and the 8gb 5060. She cant stretch for the 16gb so i am certain the 8gb version will be just fine. i was able to run reasonable new games(Resident Evil Village, 4 Remake, Last of us part 1 and GOW Ragnorok) on a 3060ti with only 8gb and they looked great and ran with no issues at 1080p easily getting over 60fps so i cant see it being an issue with her games.

yes right now, but what about in 2-3 years, the 8GB and gaming in 2025 should not be a things anymore. I would highly advice extra ~£50 to buy the 16GB version or maybe a second hand 7800xt or 7700xt form the members market on the forum.
