Stalker 2

Yeah, I think the problem for me isn’t the fact it is genuinely bad overall (KCD2 I mean) but the overhype. The same is arguably true of Stalker 2 of course and really it comes down to personal preference.

I would rate Stalker 2 as a GOTY contender after it was patched. KCD2 was just nowhere near as immersive for me.
The way I explained it to people best was, "IF Stalker 2 was half the map size/gameplay length, it could have been a GOTY".
I think that's a fair very opinion/point to make, as they could have made it so dense, with constant tension and NPC's everywhere and gunfight.
I'd of much rather played a solid 12-20 hour plot that you never wanted to put it down and really cared about what was going on, than just just more endless zig zagging across an empty map for the same of 6 hours of padding out the ending missions.

Is this worth picking up now? I'm trying to find a new game (FPS) to play and this has been on my wishlist for a while but I heard it released as a bag of bolts and recent reviews are hardly raving about the game.

Wait and see or is this as good as it's going to get? And will 3 hours be enough to judge the game upon as I read a number of the graphical complaints are highlighted later in the game, so I'm curiuos if a refund will be possible.

I'm running a 14900k (hate this CPU) and a 5090, so I should easily meet the hardware requirements... But again, with todays gaming, getting a game to run at 4k with 120fps that is younger than 5 years is nigh on impossible.

well your machine is more powerful than mine but i was running 1080p 120hz with medium and high settings running around 80-90-fps ,maybe other guys with good systems can give you a better idea....

Assuming you're talking about Steam refund policy, it's maximum 2 hours use within 2 weeks of purchase.
If you hit 121 mins, the semi-automated system will reject your claim.

I've heard and seen screenshots of people receiving refunds after way over 2 hours but I'd not risk it myself!

Let's hope it's enjoyable within 2 hours then :D

Just set a timer on your phone, I do this :P Then you're covered either way.
Just set your expectations a lot lower than what the trailer shows you, especially graphically, even max 4K DLSS, it looks nothing like how good it did in the original trailers just before release!
The gun/his arm/hand looks good, the rest is pretty meh.
I will give the intro a fair rating though, but then reality kicks in haha!

The reality being that it's fundamentally broken or simply needs further patching (even this far post release)?

Yes, and yes :)

As I said previously, if the game had been half or a quarter of the map size/time required to finish it, densely packed with NPC's and things to find/do, with a plot that kept you playing for hours, then it would have been a potential GOTY.

Anyone that feels they have to justify that it's GOTY or good, is lying IMHO, and just trying to mask the fact they wasted their money and sunk even more time into it despite finishing the weak story, hoping that it would suddenly become good - which seems to be true with most people.

It could be worse though, it could be as boring as Death Stranding

For the average gamer, it would be a hard pick as GOTY even with a smaller map. It's too generic, more like an alpha/beta stage, even the story feels more like a draft.

As fan of the series is really good, it captures the mood. Playing with mods is better.

Every time I try to play this game I end up so frustrated, enemies still spawn on top of you and the damage you deal to enemies is so inconsistent. One enemy in a pack I can headshot once and he's dead, then the guy next to him takes 5-6 headshots and just keeps on going.

Sounds like this needs another 6 months before I jump back into it.

Just mod the game. Even the previous games were very bad at some of these things.

if you have already managed to complete this game to the end of it`s story i would just wait until ALL the expansion content is out and just maybe just. they will have put in the efforts needed to fix the endless streams of bugs that never get fixed on top of all the new one`s that come with every new patch.
