YouTube Premium

Friend of mine just paid £19.99 for a year of premium.. I don't know if I can name the shop but I'm sure many of us have bought games/windows keys etc from them.. they're pretty legit.

He had to log into a random gmail account which he could then change to his (ie change password, set up 2FA etc).

Made me think, I don't mind paying £12.99 personally as I use it so much and it's not much money but it's food for thought.

I've tried this, it is a neat way of solving the problem and keeps things separate to my main google account anyway.

The problem with it is that the provider isn't necessarily buying yearly - mine was monthly and has expired a couple of times. One time it was fixed after a couple of days, the second time I needed to switch to another family which took some support tickets etc.

On reflection I'm not sure it's a better method than taking a slot on a UK family, given the risk that it just shuts off part-way through the year, but it is cheap.

Tried both Chase and Starling (Chase been working OK for 18+ months) but keep getting error "Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method ffrom your billing country".

So YouTube have started clamping down on Family shared groups now. Was good whilst it lasted but each month it seems they deactivate the premium features, forcing the group leader to take action, not really feasible on share website.

Not had any problem with mine from a sharing site yet but as soon as that starts happening I'll drop back to non premium. Don't use it anywhere near as much as I used to so revanced will be good enough

I pretty much live and breathe it due to very patchy train commute. I down videos at a moments notice, watch on train. YouTube music as well. On the other hand the £17 they want, thereabouts is criminal.

“Criminal” is a bit much, you
Leave and breathe it yet £17 for a Netflix and Spotify alternative form of entertainment sounds pretty good value to me.

With Netflix, AppleTV and the like I’m alittle more forgiving because of the production costs, paying for original content, with hundreds of millions spent on some projects, whilst YouTube..they host the content and have advertising do a lot of the heavy lifting.

I can see it happening if your family is actually spread across 5 countries and 3 continents
I assume this is the case and only way I can imagine they pick low hanging fruit. Go5050 there are groups reporting issues and 1 month ago a group leader posted that YouTube are monitoring, also said Spotify were doing the same.

The irony is that a lot of my actual family are spread apart...

You can't penalise it if your actual brother sister parents etc do live in other places
