Tsumani threat across Eastern Russia and pacific

some low energy japan arrival pics https://www.nbcnews.com/video/tsuna...-after-massive-russia-earthquake-244043333693

so there are no public satellites capturing such activity ?, earlier nbc showed accidental capture

e: bbc news mentioned that indonesia had had a lot of constructive interfererence ... what were the multiple paths

Is it going to be as big as the one in Japan had back in 2011 was it? that was brutal

Huge quake, but maybe thankfully not so likely to cause huge destruction, because of how big and deep the Pacific is (esepecially around Mariana Trench)?

Earthquakes and tsunamis always makes me think how small these things are.

Just after the formation of Earth, the moon was closer and every tide was a tsunami several miles high. The moon lifted Earths crust over 300ft, meaning there would be earthquakes every day, just in case the waves didn't get you!!

When the dinosaur meteorite hit Earth, the earthquakes would have been off the charts all over the planet as would the tsunamis that followed.

Even quite recently, there have been events that have caused tsunamis in the order of miles high and volcanic eruptions that make an atomic bomb seem trivial.

Mankind has been very lucky, only having to deal with minor earthquakes and small tidal waves. One day it will be a lot worse.

Sign of the time I guess but I was watching BBC news this morning about the earthquake, it was going on for about an hour talking about the tsunami threat to Hawaii and Japan and there was absolutely no mention of the effect it had on Russia despite it taking place off the coast of Russia

You need a certain amount of space/distance/depth of water at the location for it to kick in for a tsunami, I think that if you're near the epicentre you're actually potentially safer from the tsunami than if you're a long distance away.
The 2011 one was particularly bad because of exactly where the earthquake occurred which gave the water plenty of time to fall, then rise again before it hit land having travelled across a rise in the sea floor.

Also as others mentioned if that part of Russia is sparsely occupied the risk to life is lower, it's a much bigger story when places with a lot of people/infrastructure are likely to be affected.

Seems a lot of alerts are being pulled considering the size it dosnt seem to have impacted that bad in terms of Tsunami at least.

bbc this morning r4~7am had discussed the flooded russian fish processing factory ... but, unlike us, they seem to have social media locked down.
