Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

A lot of noise about Watkins to Utd today. Have to say I am quite happy with us signing proven premiership players.

We got really bullied physically by a lot of sides last year, and were only able to perform against lightweight European sides where our physicality wasn't a problem.

Mbuemo, Cunha, Watkins is a massive upgrade in that department. Dare I say it, a pretty solid first full transfer window for Amorin if we can get Watkins.

Not convinced thats a good signing at all. Hes going to be 30 at Christmas, isn't that prolific and is likely to cost a lot of money. Even though I don't think Sesko is that amazing, for the extra money he would cost he is likely the better bet.

Honestly I don't think a striker is our most pressing concern right now. We should have enough goals from Mbuemo, Cunha, Bruno, Amad, Hojlund, Obi etc to get us to where we expect to be next season. We need a CM more than a striker.

I wish I had your optimism about Hojlund. I think we'll be desperately depdendent on Obi coming good if we don't get another striker in.

I like Hojlund and think he's got a lot of attributes that should make him a good striker....except the actual putting the ball in the net bit, which is kind of a problem.

With a bit of confidence and in a team that isn't doing **** he will be fine for now IMO. If worst comes to worst, we can play without a traditional striker. Forward 3 of Bruno, Cunha, Mbuemo or Mount/Zirkzee in for one of those three. We do need another CM though.

I would be happy with Watkins if he was £20-30m and not on high wages but it sounds like it will be more like £50m.

I'm not convinced by Sesko or Watkins really. I'd take Watkins if he was cheap but the fees mention are nutty for a striker who is almost 30. Sesko just feels like another young project striker, why not just develop the ones we have?

Reports from the Athletic just now suggest Sesko is the preferred striker of choice for Man Utd with informal contact made to sound out the deal.

‘Informal contact’ haha.

I’d be surprised if we got him… definitely an element of risk without a doubt but he’s highly rated (in a way the likes of Hojlund wasn’t).

@Robbo I am firmly unconvinced by him. Bye all accounts Arsenal were well down the track in trying to sign him yet couldn't land on the final deal. (If that is true, not sure how we are going to afford it)

His stats for last season were underwhelming but that was in a fairly dysfunctinal RB Leipzig team who failed to qualify for Europe. A couple of the verified stato's believe he has a very high ceiling and Sesko by every metric makes more sense long term than Watkins

On the other hand we need progress now and would Watkins offer that kind of Van Persie goal guaranteed goal return for a few years, almost guarantee European football while the likes of Hojlund and Chido develop into good players in their own right

Maybe its Seskos play style that doesn't excite me

One Jadon Sancho - low price for quick sale , barely used, bags of potential to the right owner - yours for £17m.

Watkins, and it's almost guaranteed?? that is impressive!! given where you were last year..
Absolutely agree with you on based where we finished last year and going from 15th to top 6 seems a tall order.

I look at the intensity of some of the teams that finished well last season. Newcastle, Forest, Bournemouth, Palace etc. I am 100% convinced that playing pretty much every six to seven days allows for good rest, good recovery, very well drilled on tactics, More rest, Maintain fitness, minimise injuries and play games at a higher intensity for longer. I look at Newcastle towards the back end of last year and they were blowing teams off the park. Arteta in his first two years finished 8th and at least one season they had no Europa football.

No doubt in my mind we will finish top half with the two players we have bought. Add a goal scorer and European football is more than achievable. Again, in my humble opinion.
