Concerts - the Best & Worst

I mean, a 3 chord boogie band?

As someone who has played in a Quo tribute that winds me up, mind you it doesn't help they even named an album In Search Of The Fourth Chord.
Yes Caroline was a 3 chorder in F but there was so much more to them and a very hard band to emulate their songs properly, for instance Rick Parfitt had so many different guitars on stage for all the different tunings but I got it down to four.

First concert was Zeppelin in 1971 followed by Sabbath and other amazing bands like Uriah Heep and Budgie.
Got to see Zep 4x, Ozzy Sabbath around 15x, Deep Purple 6x, Bowie, original Genesis, Judas Priest, ELO, Floyd, ELP but some highlights were Sabbath/Van Halen around 1978, Sex Pistols in 1976 and Blizzard Of Oz/Budgie around 1980.

Two bands I never thought I would get to see were Flogging Molly and Clawfinger but I did catch them.
There's really only Volbeat and Skindred who I want to see now.

I can't think of a worst gig, probably Punk band The Slits but easily the best band I have ever seen live with nothing to touch them is GHOST.
Tobias Forge is a genius and the show is pure entertainment/comedy from start to finish.

One of my favourite gigs was seeing The Prodigy at Milton Keynes Bowl for my birthday in 2010, fantastic line up and perfect weather made for a great day. Before that, many hard house/trance events over the years (Tidy Weekenders ), but one that particularly stands out was Lab4's Laboratory 2 event on 04/04/04 at Shepherds Bush Empire. Looking back, it's a bit disappointing I've not had anything particular memorable in recent years, although I did really enjoy Moby last year.

Probably my standout worst gig was seeing Aphex Twin years ago. I quite like his music, but as a peak time set it just didn't grab me and I was bored.

There's been so many amazing gigs it's hard to choose one, but one of the most special for me was seeing Roger Waters doing The Wall at Wembley. Not having seen Pink Floyd, this was as close to seeing one of my favourite albums at the time being done by at least one of the band members I was ever going to get. It was as close to a religous experience an aethiest can get :p But for sheer spectacle and overwhelming awesomeness, it was the first time seeing Rammstein at Milton Keynes.....just incredible.

One of the worst has to be Eminem. It was a scorching hot day at an outdoor one day festival, he was hours late and then only performed for about 20mins, abysmal.

My most memorable gig was the line up of The Ramones and The Damned in 1991 at the Briton Academy.

I hadn’t realised just how fast The Ramones played live, but thanks to the little blue tablets my then companion had provided onto top of an afternoon spent in the pub, we were perfectly synced up.

Being in the middle of hundreds of people singing along to Captain Senisble’s “Happy Talk” during The Damned’s set was surreal.

****, I miss being young and stupid.

I saw the Ramones on their very first tour of the UK around 1976 and the set was over 30 minutes later :)
I was in Berlin a few years ago and when I got to the end of the biggest piece of the Berlin Wall I saw an advert on a tree saying "Ramones Museum 200 metres"
I went in and it was run by a youngish German bloke who was fascinated I'd seen them in 1976, he'd never come across anybody who had seen them that long ago except for one person who he said I'd like you to meet her, she'll be here anytime.
Anyway this woman came in and it was Dee Dee Ramones sister but quizzing her she didn't seem to know much about his past :)

To be fair, that’s what I thought before I saw them. After seeing Parfitt going from 0 to Mach 1 in seconds I was a convert.

Never got to see them again, sadly and my understanding is that last year’s tour was the end of the road for them.

I first saw The Frantic Four on the Dog Of Two Head tour and every year after until the God awful crap Rockin All Over The World came out.
I did go and see them quite a few times after and on their Frantic Four tour when the four originals got together.
Apparently Rossi has said no more but he's touring with his own band.
