COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

As I'm sure you are aware by now, Long COVID is a rollercoaster ride. No day feels quite the same, and you almost never feel 100% ( usually far from it ). This year I've started reacting to pollen - never been troubled with hayfever in my life - which is likely a consequence of MCAS ( studies suggest over 70% of people with LC have this ).

Both me and my GF have started suffering with hay fever over the last couple of years. Neither of us have any other allergies. One of my neighbours too has it bad and I never noticed it until recent years.

May or may not be covid related. Maybe just a new tree or plant nearby our house that none of us like.

The first time I got it (Had it twice) was from taking the IL's out for Mothers day lunch at the time we were allowed out out.

I got it and the MIL got it from the busy pub, but my OH and her Father didn't even get a sniffle, MIL got it Sunday night and I got hit on Tuesday morning, so plenty of close contact between us.

Spent 3 days isolated (in the same house) from the OH as such and she said on day 4 that I may as well be in contact with her as nothing has come from what would be obviously airbourne in the house and she continued to remain free from it + it didn't go near her the second time as well.

Long covid riddles your body with high histamine levels, which are also raised by allergies including hay fever.

I usually feel hayfever annually, but it's felt worse the last three years.

Mine is the ability to now look at someone with a sore throat or chest infection = I will probably get it pretty quick.

In reference: Before I had C twice I could walk through the valley of colds/flu/infections without it bothering me, but now :(

Yeah, I lost two lots of three weeks with different infections in early April and June.

Nasty.

I should have added that once in, it hangs around like a bad smell and usually takes a lot of shaking for it to finally leave.

That said, I will count myself luck compared to how some have, continue to suffer, or have passed.

In the first quarter of 2021 I downloaded the publicly available VAERS data that recorded thousands of vaccine side effects. You can see for yourself if you don't believe me.

Seeing this data was enough for me to not get vaccinated - in early 2020 I did have what was probably Covid so by the time of vaccine rollout probably had a degree of natural immunity also. I'm not anti vax and have had plenty of vaccines to travel for African countries. Despite being not vaxed I've never once tested positive for Covid, including twice visiting hospital wards where the next day the ward has gone into Covid lockdown. Despite being close to people with Covid I've never had symptoms afterwards In fact it's been years since I even recall having any significant level of flu.

In fact it's been years since I even recall having the flu

Older strains of flu pretty much vanished over 2020/21 and circulation of most types of influenza and common colds depressed in the years since (aside from some rhinoviruses which are likely held up by circulation in children/schools), but there has been a big explosion of new clades of influenza (A) in the last flu season and likely next flu season could be interesting as probably a lot of people won't have immunity against emerging strain variations and the dominant variants of H3N2 (especially) and H1N1 currently have quite a high baseline severity which isn't a good combination with depressed population immunity to it.

Tested positive last Friday after having a slight sore throat on the Thursday evening. It has been quite different to the previous two times though in that I've had no cough, runny nose or fever. Its just extreme fatigue.

It always takes me about 12-14 days to get a negative test and it looks like this time will be the same. Over a week in and still a strong positive on the tests. I don't seem to have given it to anyone else in the house so far at least.

I don't think I've ever had it. I must be really lucky.
Hopefully you've had it and your natural immunity batted it away.

Its weird as some people say 'oh, I've had covid 4-6 times...'

I'm sure I dodged it for 4 years and was not sure if I had immunity or what to expect - it got me last January visiting A&E for a family member.

Had the joys of C-19 again recently - like you I had a mildly sore throat and fatigue, but the main feature was severe bilateral earache which relapsed a week later ( with fever ) and ended up needing steroid / antibiotic eardrops to calm things down.

Same as the last couple of times I've had it - slight scratchy throat and fatigue and if it wasn't for other people testing positive, etc. I'd have barely thought I was ill and just put it down to being a bit run down.

Haven't had it since the one time I got it in 2023 and certainly don't want it again given the left ear tinnitus it gave me which took this long to get to the point I don't know if I have it or not anymore.

Don't exactly want to check either.

Wife brought covid home a few weeks ago from the school where she works. She had just a slight cold with it whereas I was in bed for 48hrs and had to take the whole week off work. My daughter also caught it and had the fever for 24hrs. Still not completely over it now, my energy levels keep going up and down and it feels like i've got a permanent cold and wheezy.

Went to Oasis at Wembley on Saturday, which was the best gig I've ever been too, but by Tuesday I was starting to feel rough and from Tuesday night to now I've been barely functioning.

Might be Covid, don't really bother testing now but I did read that the Oasis shows were supposedly super spreader events.

I've gone from being ravenous on day 1 and 2, to struggling to eat on days 3 and 4.

Nose is so blocked that I'm not sleeping well either which isn't helping my recovery.

Previous times I knew for certain I had Covid, it was like it had barely done anything to me, I just got on with my daily tasks.

2023 was the first time it affected me badly.

And this time I've been struggling to even send emails for work, watch TV etc. Just been mainly sitting/laying on the sofa.

I do so hope you have found the strength to send emails and also the sight to be able to watch television. It must be awful not having the strength to do such menial tasks.
I do so also hope your nose has become unblocked as it is very tricky to blow it yourself.

First time I've see that on the forums but completely unsurprising in this use case. Try and be a better poster and you might not have to hide what you're posting.

You can still just search posts by their username, I wasn't surprised by what I found xD
