Yer nan's knickers
I'm sure I'm not alone in getting rather irritated by old duffers on the roads who are seemingly deaf and only able to see about 4ft in front of them, meaning they need a calendar to pull out of junctions and stuff.

Today I learned about a Koreisha Mark, something that those clever Japanese folks have to adhere to by law - if you're over 75, you need to display this sticker on both the front and rear of the car, and it's encouraged for anyone over 70.

Shirley this would be a great idea for here? Personally it'd probably make me a bit more patient, but then I also realise that we have a ton of young, impatient, angry drivers who will see this and drive like bell ends to get around them

Whatcha fink motors?

A good idea in practice, and I'm sure it works great in Japan. I don't think it'd transfer here though. The problem is that it's the same idea as an L or P plate, ie. 'This driver may drive slower than normal and be more cautious when dealing with situations which require quick thinking or reactions'.

In theory, fantastic. People would leave more space and be patient. In reality, most of the time L/P plate cars are seen as mobile obstacles that other road users have to avoid and get in front of at any cost. If you've ever seen any of Ashley Neal's videos you can see this in action.

Says a lot about the Great British driving public, doesn’t it?

Can't see it working here and/or abused by some. I know it is a tough one but if people really are beyond driving they shouldn't be and plenty of those who drive significantly slowly are capable of driving normally but refuse to due to various deep seated notions :s

A girl at work has just passed her test and is running P plates on her car on the hope that it will make people more patient with her. The reality is the opposite because half the drivers on the road see the daily commute as a battle for supremacy and running a P plate makes you an easy mark for a bit of aggressive driving.

I image these would just allow such drivers to be pre-loaded and ready to fire with an age related insult.

Sounds like a good idea in practice, but have to agree with the others here that I don't think the sticker alone would do much tbh, or just make them a target like L/P plates.

Personally, I think there are other changes that we really need to implement for older drivers aged 70+, like the below:

  1. Driving test assessments. Obligatory review of skills, plus checking to see if they have any medical issues
  2. Medical professionals should be legally required to notify DVLA of any medical issues
  3. Regular mandatory eyesight tests
  4. Regular mandatory cognitive ability testing

There are probably more changes that might be useful which I can't think of at the moment.
