Is the MSI Pro H619M-E/G a good motherboard?

Hello.

I know it would be considered a budget board that can support 12-14th gen, but are they any good? Would it be like intels equivalent to the A520M?.

Sold my Ryzen build not too long ago as i needed the money at the time, but i do need a system for the game videos i make, but this time round im thinking intel like i had mentioned before.

I can get this board plus an i5 12400F for about £15 less than another A520M/450M board with a 5600g, all brand new. I dont technically need ram or hard drives, but looking to keep things under 200 as they are the only 2 components i need.

Cheers

They're fine if you're happy with a basic board. They're built for i3 or i5 non-K CPUs, but can handle something like a 12600K if you have to.

You'd get the 5600G if you needed the graphics, since the 12400F doesn't have one. Though, be aware the GPU architecture in the 5600G is OLD if you're planning to use the latest codecs.

In so far as, A520, yeah, H610 is in the same category (e.g. simple office PCs for word processing, surfing, etc).

Thanks for reply.

To be honest the only thing i do want from a motherboard are 2xm.2 slots still which i know this 610 doesnt have and maybe a version with 4 dim slots, but other than that, they just need to work with the processor id choose without issue.

Ive got a spare graphics card for initial setup, though i do want an entry level(ish) Ray Tracing card. The only reason i said the 5600G was because it was bundled with a motherboard. IGPU aside, i have just seen the 5600 for around the same or just under the price of the 12400F. Im more inclined with the intel route as i always go Ryzen, but the 12th gen i5 is just to get me started, i will want to upgrade to a 14th gen down the line in the form of an i7.

In the circumstances then, I think buying one of those low-end boards would be a bad move.

They're not suitable for a 14700K (the VRM doesn't even have a heatsink) and they don't have the 2x M.2 slots or the 4 RAM slots.

There's also the degradation issue with 13th-14th gen CPUs, which we still don't have confirmation of it being resolved.

I wasn't looking at the K chips unless the i7s only come in that form, but i will take that into account. So the VRM issue is the same as the A am4 boards then. not to say i had issues, but i didnt push.

I did wonder about the 13th & 14th gen as they raised flags in the mobile section too, but wasn't sure if or how bad they are on desktop given their popularity. From the sounds of it i would be better sticking to 12th gen regardless what motherboard i choose.

They're both not great motherboards for the VRM, but most AM4 CPUs are fairly modest on power consumption, whereas the i7 can push very high numbers if power unlocked.

I'd personally not expect to run anything higher than the i3/i5 non-K on any H610 board. You can get significantly better B760 boards for not a huge amount more money, with VRM heatsinks and the 2x M.2 slots and 4x RAM slots you wanted.

I'd be inclined to, yes, though the i5 non-K CPUs are still likely to use 12th gen derived dies, so e.g. the 14400F/14400 are CPUs I'd be willing to consider (they have 4 E-Cores, the same as the 12600K, which the 12400F/12400 lack).

So ive gone with intel still otherwise id regret not doing so. Ive ordered the 12400F and a Gigabyte B760M DS3H. Hopefully i wont regret that choice as ive only had one Gigabyte board before which was am4 and was decent.

Not super duper, but is a much better board than the very basic H610 ones. At least you get the 2x M.2 and 4x RAM slots that you wanted, plus a heatsink. Personally, I think that particular board is intended for HTPCs, due to the display outputs: 2x DP, 1x HDMI and 1x VGA.
