18 to 25 age verified?.

Its funny, all these services will just die as result of these things. People will either use a VPN if its easy enough or they will just look elsewhere. I'm not spinning up my VPN on everything I connect to the internet with to listed to music for christs sake.

I'm not handing over personal information or putting cards on file for companies unless I want to.

Oh lord, the conspiracy theorists and far-right are out in force, appealing to Trump to invade the UK to get rid of the extremist, Chinese-esk government.

What the heck is wrong with these people? They are utterly convinced the end of the world is nigh.

Oh, how we are a controlled population. The government monitors everything we say on the internet. We are heavily censored....and so on....

They seem to jumble up several laws and importantly miss the point that the Online Safety Bill is mostly about age verification.

I mean, I agree with what the government are trying to do. I just don't agree with how they are trying to achieve it. And their responses to questions, so far, mostly seem to be just to accuse everyone of being a pervert. Same old tactic, if you're not supporting it, you must be a criminal.

Having said that, the bill is vague and there ARE many questions. OFCOM must be buried under emails at the moment, coming from people who are concerned about the limits of the bill and whether the bill affects them or not.

No sane person disagrees with wanting to minimise risk to children, but if the parents weren't paying attention before, why will they now that they have another 'safety' blanket? Unless they monitor their children's activities properly and use the widely available tools, this whole thing is just an exercise in annoying the general public.

Correct, it acheived nothing, except boost shares in VPN providers.

I wonder how many people behind this legilation have shares in VPN providers.......

None of them. They are just idiots who don't understand tech and want to have a nice win to pat themselves on the back for saving the children.

Shocking how the information about widespread use of VPNs to get around it only came out after it was implemented. They genuinely just didn't think people would go to such extreme lengths as the 10 clicks required to set up a VPN. The fact discussions on the BBC from "experts" and laymen seemed to be more concerned about people being pushed to "the dark web" tells you everything you need to know. Its all buzzwords to these people.

I will never forget when Zuckerberg was up being grilled about the cambridge analytica scandal years ago. It was embarrassing. It was like me trying to grill rocket scientists on why their latest rocket exploded.

Is this thread now about the online 'safety' bill rather than bering ID'd in person per the OP?
If it's both then that's fine, but there's another thread in SC for that.

Going back to in person - had a ridiculously large amount of cider delivered for a festival, they only asked my name.

Very good! Wait is this all is needed for ID verification, though? I can just use anyone's ID..?

An AI generated driving license passes the Reddit verification, it does need to match your date of birth though. I tried it out of curiosity after hearing it worked..

Not sure about anywhere else as I haven't needed to verify.
