"Hundreds" of Met Police armed response officers hand in the weapons after colleague charged with murder - Chris Kaba Shooting aftermath.

The police were too close when they approached, if they maintain a bit of a distance then it may not have kicked off or they would have been in a better position to control the outbreak.

I can imagine them thinking that as he had already been violent and his attention was elsewhere, they would take the opportunity to get hands on him from the start to control the arrest. Of course that approach assumes that once someone realises the police have got them they will show a degree of compliance, rather than go into full on berserker mode.

Creating a distance allows the police to work out the next strategy. If the person is still aggressive taser them, end off.

What they did was negligent as it could have ended up worse, those guys could have reached out and taken hold of the guns, maybe even fired them, anyone within range could have been hurt.

This incident will be now be part of all police training guide's.

Those guys all look more than 45kg, and bigger than the girls they're competing against

And so what? The average guy is bigger than the average gal. The ladies, however, are stated to be at the height of fitness whereas the men are not (though the guy on the far right does look fitter than average).

The poster I was responding to didn't mention the average guy or gal, he's talking about someone who weighs 45kg, which is well below the average weight for both, and neither of which are suitable to be a frontline officer.

Pleading not guilty, so need the book throwing at them. Upto 16 years for GBH, although many are lower, pleading not guilty is a reason to ramp up sentencing

Apparenly this applies: If someone is charged with multiple GBH offenses (either Section 18 or Section 20), the sentences may be served concurrently (at the same time) or consecutively (one after the other), depending on the specifics of the case

I don't think either has been charged with GBH - one of the guilty charges was assault causing ABH IIRC and the other is assault on an emergency worker + there's the initial assault on a member of the public which is why the police were called to deal with this violent individual in the first place. He's now facing a retrial for the outstanding charge and his cousin too.
