I’ll start.

The class 52 Western. Stalwarts of the Wstern region back in the day & they used to haul the big expresses from Bristol up to the midlands & beyond. It used to be easy to jump on and ride these from Temple Meads to Parkway before the guard came round & we often did this.

Although not diesel, the only thing that comes close to me after that is the class 225.

You cant beat steam....tons more character etc...

I liked the deltic myself

The 37 was an old workhorse.

I used to be an avid train spotter in the 70's!

very true, but the 125 was born partly due to the apt-e overspending and BR needing a more cost effective solution, but im no train guru, i just grew up in the 80/90s with a hornby train set :D
Would have loved to have seen that in action. It would have been other worldly. Even now it looks so futuristic.

This documentary on the development of the Class 91 aired when I was 6 as part of a channel 4 season on trains - I recorded it on VHS and wore that thing down to the ground watching it so many times. I could pretty much narrate the whole thing, engineering terms included, without knowing what 99% of it meant :D

Amazing to think they’re still going strong in the east coast mainline almost 40 years later.
