Are cinemas target audience now under-30s?

The last movie I saw at the cinema was Star Wars The Last Jedi, it was so bad it put me off going to the cinema again and to be fair other then maybe Top Gun there hasn't been any movies since then that appealed to me.

Anyone noticed the lack of comedies these days? Growing up there was always a decent comedy like American Pie, Dodgeball, Zoolander, Shaun Of The Dead etc. The last comedy that I can remember watching was Hungover.

I'm 40 and it takes a fair bit to make me actually go to the cinema now, I still go but it's usually only a couple of times a year.

The last thing I saw was Superman (only because a mate dragged me and paid for the ticket), Sinners before that and then Alien Romulus mid last year unless I'm forgetting something, which is entirely possible.

It takes a bit of a spectacle to draw my interest as otherwise I'd rather watch at home, it's a much more comfortable experience sat on my couch with the ability to pause if I need to use the toilet, which given how many movies run into the 2-3 + hour mark now is almost a given. I remember seeing the last Avatar movie and almost ******* myself, came out of the room and the bloody staff had closed the toilets, I had to do the sprint-waddle to the Tesco over the road.

Last film I saw at the cinema was Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Pile of Crap Ending in 2008. Not only were there all the idiots that couldn't stay off their phones but it wasn't cheap either, especially if you bought food. These days I just wait for the streaming release or Blu-ray and watch it on my projector or on a cinema screen in VR, the latter especially for any 3D films I have.

I don't think there's anything that would drag me back to a cinema these days.

Their target audience is people who don't like money and enjoy having their movie watching experience ruined by other people eating, talking, playing with phones etc.

Me and my partner went and watched the latest Jurassic World not too long ago. I don't think it aims to that group specifically, just depends on people's tastes. I do usually find new movie releases just don't grab my attention.

Just checked what’s on at my local place

Superman.. seriously, another one?
Fantastic four.. superhero meh and seriously, another one?
Jurassic world.. seriously, another one?
The naked gun.. Liam Neeson being Liam Neeson for the millionth time
Smurfs.. might be alright for the kids
28 years later.. didn’t everyone say this was crap?
Bring her back.. might be alright but too risky, just wait until stream

So yeah, zero need to go to the cinema.
Jurassic world Buy or hire on the 5th Superman on the 15th and the smurfs
Bring her back now showing in some pubs ;)

Jesus, that's grim.

1 out of 7 which isn't a remake or sequel in a franchise which has already been milked to death. Do writers not have original ideas anymore?

Last time I went to the cinema was to take the kids to the Lego movie 2, so that's... 6 years ago?

The big problem for cinemas is that there’s next to nothing coming out of Hollywood worth the £40 two cinema tickets and snacks are going to cost you.

I missed this the first time… but:

Uh, what? :p

I haven't been to our cinema since before Covid hit, mainly because it's far too expensive but also because of the garbage being churned out by the film studios, everything seems to be a remake of a remake of a remake now. Our cinema is £9 per adult then you have the overpriced food and drink (youu are not allowed to bring your own and it's strictly enforced) and before you know it you have spent £40+ for the pair of us to watch a film that we can see in the comfort of our own home in a few weeks time. Then you have people talking through the film, people on their bloody phones, kids messing around, sticky carpets and I dread to think what the seats contain plus they are really uncomfortable. No thank you, I doubt if we will ever go again.
