It turns out I have more annual leave left than I thought, which is no bad thing. I'm likely going away for a week in early October, after which I'll be left with around 8 or 9 days to use before the end of the year.

Looking to go somewhere in November or December. I've already been to Portugal, France and likely Greece in October. I was potentially thinking somewhere a bit further afield than Europe as I have visited lots of European countries but only been out of Europe once.

I like getting out and about in nature, hiking and swimming, seeing mountains, lakes and beaches etc. I also like visiting interesting cities and just generally exploring. I was possibly thinking about Kazakhstan but definitely open to ideas!

Vietnam has everything you've listed, along with brilliantly cheap food. But a fair trek to get there.

Thanks, I had a look and there are reasonable direct flights to Cape Town. Though at around 11 hours I guess I'm not sure if I have enough holiday to justify the travel time...

I would usually agree with a flight that long, but both the outbound and inbound are night flights so you won't lose too much time traveling. Plus it's only a 2 hour time difference so you won't be losing time trying to recover from jet lag.

Yes true, guessing you mean the same LGW Norse Atlantic one I was looking at? Seems like they're decent enough and use 787s

Not sure that Norse fly overnight on the way back. Also they don't have daily departures so you may not be able to optimise your holiday usage. BA and Virgin both fly daily although I appreciate they will likely be more expensive than Norse

He is talking nigh winter time though, but too early for snow/ski, so it's tricky ...
I mean summertime/spring lots of nearer places in europe dolomites / corsica , for a couple.

Did you do the Bavellas - magnificent drive (just like the WRC) and we had an epic climbing adventure, moonlight return.

I go to Morocco every year around October/November time, up to a town in the Anti-Atlas mountains called Tafraoute. I go for the rock climbing, but there's plenty of hiking and stuff to do. Super cheap. Really nice people, away from the madding crowds of the big cities.

It's like £500 all in per person to stay there for a week, flights, hotels, car hire, food, drink. Pretty short flight too.

Temperatures in the mountains that time of year are typically high 20s, quite pleasant. Very reliably dry and fine.
