MinisForum MS-01 - Owners Thread

Thanks. That's why I havent done the paste as dont want to mess the warranty up... its currently on its 4th memory test with no errors yet. The temp is 74 degrees but I assume thats to be expected as its under load. How many test cycles do you think would be appropriate before I reset and try again?

I'll have try and find that post. My 1st machine is running the latest bios with no issues and no tweaks by myself running pfsense.

If no errors after multiple tests I'll just have to try it again .. if it dies after that then like you say I'll have to try an rma... thats going to be fun I bet...

Thanks

So I ran 5 full memory tests which passed all ok. Took about 5 hours .

Just happened to be next to it after it had been on for 24 hours and the unit shut itself down and rebooted. Only running ubuntu so no reason to do that.
I can only think there is some other hardware fault....

That sounds like a hardware fault or PSU issue, either way with the amount of testing you've done I'd be sending it back for a replacement as you dont want to think its working only for it to fail after modding it

So its not been easy.. several emails back and forth asking me to try a manor of things which I've refused due to the fact it was playing up out of the box....I said my other 2 are stock bios so im not going to try all manor of tweaks in the bios... finally I have had an email from the "uk" address acknowledging the rma, but it seems I have to send it to a UK address at my expense.. no guidance on wether I have to insure it at my cost.... I have asked for clarification as if it gets lost who's responsible...
The email implies a replacement will be sent when they receive it back.

.. Lesson learned though. The 4th one I need will be from amazon as at least it can be returned easily up to 30 days the cost difference is only £50 at the moment.wish I had done that in the first place now...

It's your responsibility until it's delivered. It's up to you whether you insure it or not but a service like Tracked 24 or 48 is the minimum so you have proof of delivery.

Well its still going on. The return address given is a morrisons post office! I sent it tracked 24. Its been there 2 days and the agent for minisforum hasn't picked it up so they won't release a replacement... I have his number but he refuses to answer my calls... absolute shambles. I have advised them if he doesn't collect in 5 days rm told me it will be sent back...

I sent the receipt, photos and tracking as requested but still not resolved.

This has always been the biggest fear around Minisforum, when everything works it's great and for little quirks and queries the support team are fine but the moment anything "standard" like an RMA is needed they seem to be incapable of providing a sensible and fair solution.

I mean, it's not rocket science, if a unit is defective a free return/replacement scheme should be offered. You send the unit back, it gets checked and if everything is confirmed as broken a new one is sent out. It might take a while but this is how a normal business would operate.

Having it being delivered to a Morrisons Post Office, paid for by the buyer just seems......... pants, I mean they are charging £340 minimum for these units, it's not like they are making them at cost or giving them away, they should have enough cash set aside to run the operation properly.

It's a real shame as the hardware is genuinely promising but this along with the general "unpolished" nature just makes me feel iffy using them moving forward, I think my units are great but even items such as the CMOS battery constantly dying in one of them or the thermals being "hotter than ideal" just makes me wonder if they are "up to snuff" for homelabing or continuos use.

Completely agree with everything you said. I have absolutely no faith in this process. Im fully expecting RM to return it. Thank goodness I paid by my cc. If it ends up not being resolved I will go for a refund through my card. Ultimately I have done everything they asked for including all the other things they requested at the time of the return yet they say they can't release a new one till their "wharehouse" (1 guy going to morrisons.....) acknowledges delivery... given I have complied with everything they should just send one out.
If and a big if I buy anymore it would only be through amazon. At least its a 30 day return window even if its £50 approx more and getting a credit would be far easier than this.

You would think they would return uk units to their European wharehouse.

I tried the contact number again and I think I have been blocked now ..
I'll keep you posted if there are any developments!...

I has a similar experience with Geekom unfortunately, before buying the MS-01 & MS-A2. I'd only buy these from Amazon now - which I'd rather not - because of their returns process.

I had to set Amex on Geekom to get my money back.

The whole process so far has been nothing but a headache. Has put me off buying any more at the moment thats for sure...

If you did want more let me know, I might be getting rid of mine later this year as I look to something with less heat
OK will bear it in mind... still having a comedy with mf...they have been asking me if it was collected from the drop off... er why are they asking me and not their agent etc. Still no further on. I have asked RM for copy of signature from the drop off as it won't let me view it:confused:

It'd be funny were it not completely disappointing for what I would consider a "Fairly well known" brand for mini PCs :(

So another week on and no replacement or shipping details of the supposed replacement despite asking several times... they say they have sent it yet can't provide any tracking details even though that's standard when you order with them.

I'm convinced the faulty unit is still sat in the drop off point as the status is still "pending" on royal mail. After 18 days it gets returned so that's not too far away so we will see......
