Flying with a Sinus Infection

Only if the plane isn’t on a treadmill.

I flew with a really bad hangover, probably the worst hangover I'd ever had in my life if I'm honest.

I went out with my brother to the local spoons, for "a couple", my brother's mate who I also get on with turned up, and anyway "a couple" turned in to staying until kick out.

It was also when the clocks go forward one hour , my flight was about 7:30am from Heathrow the next morning, I was living in North London at the time, so had to catch the first tube from Arnos Grove tube station at like twenty past 5 in the morning, which was the equivalent of 20 past 4.

I had passed out on the sofa that night, for what felt like 15 minutes and my alarm went off.

I walked to the tube station 15 minutes barely conscious, when I got on the tube and had this sensation that if I stayed still, I might die, so I kept slowly rocking back and forth just to make sure I was still alive. My face was totally flushed, sitting there rocking back and forth with a packet suitcase, I must have looked like an absolute crack head.

When I got to the airport I had diarrhea, but made the flight.

When the plane took off and it like pushes you back in your seat I thought I was going to pass out.

Anyway, I did start to feel a bit better, although still had a 3 hour coach trip from Dublin to Waterford, which I mostly slept through if I'm honest.

What a day though.

Haha, I knew this scenario would involve Wetherspoons  You never disappoint!

Hopefully this thread is fine as I'm not after medical advice, just peoples experiences.

Has anyone flown with a sinus infection?

I'm supposed to be flying to Menorca on a family holiday in 6 days, but yesterday developed a sinus infection.
I went to the pharmacist this morning who have told me to see my GP as I may need anibiotics due to the short time before flying. Thankfully they've fit me in this afternoon.

I had sinus pain descending on a flight without an infection a few years back and it felt like my head was going to explode.
Your Pharmacist should be able to do a NHS Pharmacy First assessment for your sinus infection, if needed they can prescribe steroid nasal spray or antibiotic.

It's not actually a Wetherspoons any more, The Tally Ho in North Finchley.

I went in there a few years ago whilst visiting, got the app out and didn't show the pub on there, so I went up to the lady behind the bar and asked, to be told it hadn't been a Wetherspoons for about 5 years, oooops.

Oh well, we had a few drinks anyway.

I flew to US once and didn’t think I had a sinus issues. I don’t normally other than when I have a cold.

As soon as the plane took off I was in severe agony. Lasted a good couple of hours during which my g/f was panicking and I was very close to curling up in the aisle and crying.

Never happened again… but if I was blocked up with that headache feeling before a flight, I would be tempted to cancel based on my experience.

Haha, I can imagine you trying to use the app and speaking to the staff :P
Well when in Rome :P you may as well have a drink!

In terms of excruciatingly painful in flight experiences, I'll never forget the time my ex had a sudden gout flare up on the knee.

On a 4 hour Ryanair flight.

In a seat which appeared to have been made from a recycled ironing board and only had enough legroom to allow somebody no more than 5 feet tall to fit in without adopting advanced yoga positions.

Worse still, so as not to miss our slot, the flight crew decided not to wait for the refreshments trolleys to be replenished so there was no drinks service.

What a 4 hours that was.

How did you manage?

Hadn't felt my sinuses on a flight until yesterday. Was in a nice slumber till we dropped through cloud preparing to land and it felt like somebody had shoved a skewer in my head and was rattling it about until we landed

So yeah, with a sinus infection, hope you managed ok.

Yeah I managed ok in the end.

I was taking Pseudoephedrine for the 6 days before flying and it eased off enough that I felt alright to go. I took the last one about an hour before take off and then used a nasal spray when the pilot announced we were starting our descent.

I did get a bit of pressure at one point but nothing like the head’s about to explode feeling I’d had before, so was very relieved!
