Mafia: The Old Country

I'm liking the look of this so far. OK, the reviews aren't the best, but I'd rather play a game with a decent story and setting than another 100hr collectathon filled with tripe. And at this stage, I can accept that a driving and shooting game has driving and shooting without needing it to be revolutionary.

£30 is too much for my blood, but definitely up for trying it once the price drops a bit.

You and me both buddy, *cough* STALKER2 *cough*

For me, this is still going to be worth a single playthrough, it's only £35 on CD Keys, so who cares - hell it's cheap enough directly from Steam.
Considering everything is £70 now, we can't exactly moan if this isn't 'as good as other games' or as long.

IMHO, MAFIA 2 = the best one, but replaying it, doesn't hold up very well now. Then MAFIA 1 Remake, was spot on and more than good enough, yes it has flaws/bits missed, but who cares, it was a pretty good effort, and I got it with the trilogy for something silly like £45 on PS4 not long after release.

MAFIA 3, well that's 'it's own thing', and wasn't very MAFIA, but I still completed it a few times, because it was so quick to get into senseless open world sandbox violence or stealth, and you could just speedrun it and turn your brain off - but I totally get why people hate it.

The analogy I often use is that a game can still review averagely or poorly, and maybe even be so to the majority. However, that doesn't necessarily mean you won't enjoy it, like I might be way more likely to enjoy a nice 'gourmet' burger but sometimes a McDonald's just does fine and heck I might even fancy one knowing it's not good but I'll still enjoy it in that moment.

Not the best analogy but not thought of anything to replace it with yet lol.

Seems they have made an offer I can refuse for now. Seeing the reviews, I think the era is just not my preference for a mafia game. I wanted a prequel to mafia 1, but one that took place in an expanded area of lost haven with the story of how the 2 dons became the dons of their area.

I couldn't have said it better to be honest mate.

I'm always up for taking a gamble, especially at the price this is on CDKeys... Or at worst, try it on Steam and refund under 2 hours, then rebuy on CDKeys, no biggie.

I definitely red this as Outer Haven:

Mate, why don't you just try it out for yourself? This way, you'll know whether the internet is lying/faking reviews? At worst, you end up with something you might enjoy, and for cheap!?
You've got nothing to loose but some time and bandwidth? Then refund it on Steam, then rebuy it for £35 on CD Keys? Win win, surely?
I totally get why you have been on the fence, but you may as well try it?

Huh?

No offense, but you sound like you'll never try it out for yourself, and will be forever criticizing it in this thread.
So I'm just saying, that you may as well buy it on Steam, see what you think and refund it as required.
You're making zero sense.

The game has just come out. It's still less than 1 page long and not one user has posted that they have bought it.

That's of course interesting, when you compare that to say gta thread, or many other games. Kcd2 etc

I'm making perfect sense - I suggested you should just try the game out and refund it, as you might like it? How is that difficult to understand?
But instead, you've just been negative and moaned at everyone who's posted in the last few days:
Mafia 1 gun play was extremely poor.

Mafia 3 driving was the worst though and this game being made by the same team looks just as bad.

Trouvle is mafia 3 was made by the same people that are making this one.

I expect to see the ubisoft style maps where there is a location to unlock that section of the map, then there is a leader of that area, then a shop, a garage etc, rinse repeat 5 different times for each "area" of the map

I think the same applies with this latest one! Feels like if they made red dead redemption 3 set in 2025. The game may feature some link to the characters in the previous games, but it's a whole different feel.

As much as I think this game may be fun, I just think it should have been it's own game without the mafia brand, and then we get another mafia game set in a city like new York, with the same cars/music from mafia 1. That's to me what the franchise should be about.

You're right there was some good aspects. What I should have said is that they shoot outs were bad when reviewed with today's experience. It was literally a case of just stand there and shoot. While using the environment to mostly block your body

Because the people that made mafia 3 also made this.

And 1 was a remake of a game done by a different studio, so they had something great to copy. And the remake was some how worse with less features than the original. Of course the graphics and acting and gun play was better, but the things that made mafia 1 so great were removed, evident from the very first mission

Removed the monorail, removed many of lucas side missions if not all of them. Remove the ability to do missions your own way. I remember in the first mission where you have to escape driving Sam and Paulie in your taxi, in mafia 1 you could ram them off the road in the first corner if done right and then mission complete, minus the getting to saliaris bar part.in the remake, you have to go down certain roads, to have to see the cut scene, to have to do the next bit, etc. Far less freedom.

I'm sure there is more but I've forgot

Ah you're right. One user
:(

So seeing as you've no intention of ever actually buying or trying the game for yourself, why are you continuing to comment in this thread?
You'll never get to have your own opinion, because your adamant that you'll never play the game. So why don't you leave the thread to people who are whiling to try it and refund it if they dislike it.

Yeah you're still not making any sense.

Why don't you make a thread called "mafia old country only positive opinions"

"people that are willing to try it" yeah look at all those users.

Sad that mafia has gone like this. Mafia 1 was the best game ever, now it's a "ill get it on sale maybe" game.
