what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

Was going to say the 2021 pads on my HD600 were gash with articulation issues but then I found my AE-5 had somehow put the SBX profile into Gaming mode itself despite me having SBX profiles disabled, second time that has happened.

I can beat that.

I have had my Denon AVR since middle of Covid and always wondered why everything sounds so thin and no bass compared to my Sony and Pioneer before it. Did the room test several times and each time it shows the sub kicking in, a BK XLs400, so I know it is connected and has signal and I remember how powerful a sub it is...only 3 days ago I actually digged into the setting and I had something switched off. Did some adjustment manually and now I can make my sofa shake and the air in my lungs move.

4 years !

Received the Hifiman He6 SE v2 from cex, they are brighter than I was expecting. Amp can run them with plenty of power to spare, running at -26dB for a comfortable listening level. Sadly, I think they will be going back as they stink of smoke and there's no way that's coming out.

Stink of smoke? Like how does that even happen? What kind of smoke?

Anyone know how to fix this?

Sennheiser IE300 IEMs. Haven't used them In 3 months; took them out the box today and the drivers on both ears want to fall out the housing, hanging on solely by the soldered wires

Should I try sticking some super glue in there and shoving them back in?

That looks like the nozzle is connected into the main housing using a rubber seal which fits insdie. Is that the case? Product photos seem to suggest this as well, so does the ridges on the driver.nozzle bit. Superglue might help, but be careful where you're putting it, and don;t put them in your ear for a bit after.

Might just be time for some new ones though.

edit, it looks like there was glue already in that to hold it together, your very large image allows one to zoom way in, and you can see some residue along the outside. Superglue is weird at times, the fumes misbehave with plastics, and I'm not totally sure it's the correct choice here.

I had a look at Sennheiser spare parts website and can't find any housing replacement for the IE300. I'm not even sure a spare part would be sold. But I think it would be a very careful glue job to re-seal the case, but as @Starvald mentioned I'm not sure how.

Only idea would be a search online, or via Youtube to see if anyone has done a similar repair.

So I have been listening to this album for the past week basically on repeat with the X9. Today I decided to switch to the Topping DX5II and I think if my ears are not deceiving me, there is a little more zinc at the vocals/top end.

Would fit with my obversations, assuming by "zinc" you mean a bit more clarity or pizazz. Although not listened to the Topping, but have heard an ESS DAC compared to the X9s AKM. Would also fit the broad consensus, well, apart from the DaCs mAkE No DiffERence crowd.

Sabre ESS DACs are thought to be more resolving, I found them to be slightly brighter
The X9s AKM DAC, is more rounded tonally - perhaps with less upper resolution

The differences were so slight, that I wasn't sure they existed. Although comparing to the K11 r2r, that DAC was less resolving in the treble, and had way less control of bass, along with a closer soundstage - although it's treatment of mids and voices was lovely. Since I also have a Mojo 2, it is a little brighter than the AKM, and not as resolving as the ESS. Overall, I've begun to prefer the X9, but it's mostly what I've been listening to, so it's most likely familiarity, rather than any real preference. Considering switching to the Mojo for a little bit, see if it will swing back the other way. I think it will. After extended usage I'm thinking the AKM is the slight better of these 2, but it's really close, and perceptual differences in the tonality, particularly in the trebble, can sound like extra resolution and detail. There's more differences in sources, and output devices. As well as EQ. Since the Mojo only has a 4 band EQ system, and it's fairly basic, I might actually be hitting the end of my time with it.

Ears and minds decieve though, so the only difference I'd be confident in spotting in the above is the K11 r2r.

I hadn’t planned on it but the idea that after a week of using the X9/i5 on just 1 album I am more familiar with the sound than switching back and forth. So whilst I am aware sound memory is normally terrible for humans, I’m banking on the fact that this is like a week of something then a sudden change and this was the feeling I get. And I was expecting it to be “the same”.

Would I bet my house on it? No but it’s broadly how I feel at the moment on the DX5ii.

I tried as well checking but they don't seem to sell parts for this. I'm not surprised though as replacing the housing would require de and re soldering the wires which they probably don't want users doing

I'm still quite shocked the whole thing was being held together by thin strips of glue that appears to have dried up and failed. It's pretty poor design

After doing a google search I found a couple people having the same issue on the IE600 model, which uses a metal housing and the same glue to hold it together. It seems Sennheiser is cheapening out on all their IEMs. I haven't found any help fixing it though, just people on Reddit complaining of the same issue

The DX5 II does have mid/upper mid lift, something I noted in my review of it, but the drawback was that I also noticed the soundstage was more compressed than the X9, whereas the AKM Velvet sound used by the X9 is smooth/warm and spacious. The result is a neutral mid/upper mid range but with all that imaging space included which the DX5 II doesn't have.

So yeah as said above, the AKM Velvet sound is more well-rounded as a result, or what I have always labelled with amps as "The NAD sound" which is exactly the kind of signature I've known and preferred for decades. I feel the DX5 II is too analytical bordering on clinical, which obviously suits certain types of headphones (Sennheiser as we have now discovered).

You're unlikely to find any spare parts for iems as Sennheiser don't even repair them, under warranty they just bin the incoming and send out a new pair

Sennheiser used to be quite good at repairing and/or replacing stuff even outside of warranty but now most of their consumer lines come under Sonova may not get the same quality of service.

Think I need to put something on the headband of the 505s - the pleather type stuff just isn't going to last when it comes into contact with sweat and oils, etc. from your head.

Anyone tried the Quad Era-1s?

I have a hankering for an upgrade from my DT 990 250ohms. I have a real soft spot for Quad, I've got a pair of 11Ls sat behind me that I should be selling but I can't bring myself to part with, so may try finding space on my desk for em too :)
