Meta Quest 4 (2026)

a puck could be a good idea, with different specs depending on what your priorities are.

could also mean you could choose to either upgrade your display unit or your compute puck depending on which was holding you back.

I never understood why they insisted in building the battery into the headset, in an inaccessible position rather than in the headstrap (like the Pro) or in a separate puck.

It may be this is in an effort not only to make the headsets lighter but to conform to new EU regs which try to make it easier to change batteries.

So it's just been pointed out to me by Seb of MRTV in the comments of 1 of his YT video's that the Quest 4 could be actually these new AR glasses codenamed Puffin coming out in 2026 if rumours are to be believed. I was thinking Puffin is a different thing all together and that a Q4 would come out but maybe later than planned i.e. 2027. But Seb says the Quest 4 = Puffin. That's not good at all for VR and MR gaming. Not feeling good about this at all. Maybe I was a bit slow to realise this.

Q4 was pretty much confirmed not coming in 2026 i thought, and the AR glasses with Puck are a differant product branch.
i don't beleive the AR glasses will be the Q4, it jsut doesnt make sense for the use case at the moment.

See this is what I thought, that the Q4 was a different product to Puffin. Seb literally says in the comments for 1 of his vids (it's his latest Play For Dream MR vid) "Quest 4 is cancelled" in reply to someone saying "I cannot wait for the Quest 4" and I questioned this and he commented "Quest 4 = Puffin" which made me think. Edit : Not just Seb, Thrillseeker prominently displays in the thumbnail of his latest vid "Quest 4 reportedly cancelled".

I am looking to buy a Quest 3 but in two minds atm really. Shall I wait for Quest 4. I want to use it for PCVR also but there is mixed feedback on that.

Right now there's no guarantee on what the latest release from Meta will be. It appears that the quest 4 has been cancelled/majorly delayed, in favour of glasses with a puck style. Quest 3 is a very good headset for the money, and personally I wouldn't see the point in waiting. Be sure to ask any friends/family that have a headset, to give you a referral, so you both get £23 free credit to spend in the store. Or if you don't know anyone with a referral, you can ask here.

Plenty of Quest 3's cropping up, just pick up a used one?
Not sure if you can still play the discount game via TopCashback and Very etc

I must admit I would love a wider FOV for my next headset.

Me too. I'd pick wider FOV over higher density smaller FOV any day. One of the things I liked about my index was the vertical FOV was massive. You couldn't see the top edge of the display. Way more immersive.

Due to how infrequently I use it, I will be sticking with my three until something that is OLED comes out that I don't need to wear fully covering my face and also isn't some dodgy Chinese brand which will have support dropped in a week.

The closest is the Big Screen Beyond 2, but that's wired and requires Index base stations and controllers.
